Ok, folks. I carry appendix in a Tier 1 Concealed Axis. I'm looking for an under shirt to wear during the summer that will protect my tum tum from any more grip rash, but more importantly I want something that will wick away sweat/protect my pew from swimming in belly button sweat. Any suggestions?

I don’t shoot NRA high power but I do know some folks who do and they wear a sweat layer underneath their hot as hell shooting jackets.

If you know anyone who shoots that discipline, perhaps ask them what they use and see if it’s suitable for your purpose.

Well, I mean the only place that makes the Magic™ stuff is the LDS church, and you gotta be a member to get ‘em, sooo… I can send the missionaries your way!

But for real though, mine are a cotton/poly blend, something like 87% cotton and the rest polyester wicking material, but I’ve done 100% cotton before. The slick, modern materials may snag less than on cotton or other natural fibers, but in my experience the material type isn’t super critical. Training your draw with it on is, however. They CAN get in the way if you’re used to just grabbing a handful of shirt and pulling.

As far as “protecting your pew,” holsters with sweat guards may be more helpful there. But any material that will wick away moisture rather than hold it, while also letting you breath so you don’t keep sweating longer than your body actually needs to, is going to be a plus.

Nothing that you wear as an undershirt is going to keep your handgun from getting wet with sweat.

Make sure your holsters have as high a sweat guard as possible as this will protect the slide the best.

The grip is going to get wet. Either carry a polymer framed handgun or do frequent maintenance to wipe off sweat. If your pistol has grip panels make sure you remove them often to dry off sweat that wicks under them and to apply a corrosion protectant. Do this even if the frame is made of aluminum as aluminum WILL eventually corrode under those conditions. Ask me how I know.

I appreciate all the insight and suggestions. Sounds like not getting myself beached and stuck in the sun as well as regular maintenance is more of a key than garment choice. I mostly carry a MR920 with bronze cerakoted slide. My biggest battle is sweat seeping into my spare mag and don't want the trigger assembly rusting like my Walther PPS M2. Seems like no matter what I did, how much I wiped down and lubed the gun, I'd find more rust each time. I had to shelf that thing for summer.

And hey, @Basher, you wouldn't happen to know the infamous LDS member Tom Hong, would you?? If you do, tell him I said, Jesus and I love you, cupcake! Man I hope SOMEBODY gets that reference.

I have been using both 32 Cool under shirts and “gasp” Under Armor cool gear under my regular (fishing or Tropical) shirts. BUT, a holster with a good sweat guard is a must. I also second @308pirate for regular PM on whatever you carry in hot weather. I’ve had a J frame rust in a week when the air temp was above the 100* mark, and the mag. Release froze on my M&P Shield. Now everything get es checked, exercised, and lubricated weekly if carried IWB or shoulder holster.

Pretty much. Despite being thicker it still will run eventually.

I use holsters with sweat guards and compression tee shirts. Make sure they fit snug and tuck them in. That will keep them from interfering with the draw. Another thought, and I haven't tried this, what about applying antiperspirant, not deodorant, to the areas under your gun and mags.
