I'm not sure if it's what someone would be looking for to do a USMC build but it's pretty complete. Original box, papers and all. Not stamped USMC Sniper though. Just do a search over there for Unertl. It had one bid at $3000.

If it's not stamped USMC it's just a left over parts, T series that isn't worth a whole lot, so grab it if you want, the value isn't there.

After Unertl died, a shell company bought the name and some spare parts, and had them built by a former employee... they saw no service and were not contracted by the USMC so the reality is, it was a guy with a business card and parts standing on the head stone of the Unertl name.

By the time the T series was built, USO had the USMC contract. Nothing Unertl touched that scope but an office in Nevada with a name on the door.

I was skeptical about it not being stamped and I don't know near enough about the original M40s even after reading through the build posts. And I sure as hell ain't gonna pay that much from scammer over there. I knew enough people on SH could tell if its worth anything. Just thought I would say something in case it was legit. I don't have an extra 3-4 grand sittin around right now even if it was real:(

Well, an old argument for sure but here we go again; the parts of the "T" are Unertl and originally built by the Unertl company at least and all parts of the "T" series are of the original contract, original drawing and blueprint design. All the MST-100s and T Unertls bought today by civilians were not used by the Marine Corp, the designs were. The USO MST100s are a copy of the original Unertl design. AGAIN, NONE of the USO or Unertl scopes(except for a few original "USMC Snipers" and USN "10x Snipers" in collections) owned today were ever used by the Marines or SEALS. However, the Marine Corp did use USO MST100s and "Unertl Snipers" and the NAVY/FBI did use "10x snipers."

Reference: My persoanl experiences and discussions with John Unertl 1986-88. Discussions with "Aaron Davis" owner of the present Unertl Scope Company and Unertl scope technician and historian who built scopes and worked with John Unertl (October 2012).

<span style="font-weight: bold">NOT my opinion, FACT.</span>

The original argument of "originality" and value is subjective. The comparative value of the MST100 vs "T" series value is ridiculous at best, it's all personal opinion. Personally I'd rather have a Unertl "T" series or original Unertl "10x Sniper" or "USMC sniper." The USO MST100 and the mount whether used by the Marine Corp at one point or not is still a copy of the original design, the Unertl 10x sniper or "T" series scope...period. One could argue(and I am) that the "T" series is closer to the original than the USO version but again, even that arguement is a useless argument, no one except for a few lucky collectors have ORIGINALS!

Was the USO contract for new units, or refurb only? I have never seen a USO on an M40A1.

Also, I didn't know that Unertl (company) was still around. I thought Rocky Green was the last owner and Unertl is no longer?

edit: Oh, wow! Now I see this is an old thread.
