They are coming... very, very close.

A few nice little improvements too from the SHOT Models, so it wasn't for nothing, they actually changed stuff

Also on their website they talk about revolutionary features. Other than having a lot of elevation travel is there anything else unique about this that you would get over other scopes in this price range? Just curious because I will need a scope for a new rifle I have on order soon. I have been leaning towards premier, but this looks interesting.

NF talks a lot about their 90% light transmission. Wouldn't this be pretty typical for scopes in this price range (Premier, S&B, March)?

The scope just kicks ass, it's got awesome glass, 19 (20) mils in a single turn, the extra height for the elevation turret is the Brake, when you 1/4 turn it, the brake is engaged.

Good eye box, it's not picky at all, really cool.

I would guess based on conversations that stocking dealers will see them in Oct.

Don't know for sure, but I'm gonna guess that it keeps the turret from turning when engaged.

From what I recall in past threads, the brake acts just like you would expect a brake to work. When engaged it does not lock up the turret, but significantly increases the torque needed to make the turret move from the current setting. These are .2 mil increments so a click or two could be significant depending up on the range.

The NXS will in no way compare to the BEAST. The ATACR would be a better option if you don't care for the BEAST.

Reliability and tracking is top shelf but the glass falls short of other optics in their price ranges.

With the SFP ATACR and FFP BEAST NightForce introduced a new spec of glass that puts them in the same league optically as S&B, Premier, Steiner, etc.

Had I not recently picked up a Steiner 5-25 I would be eyeing up the BEAST; the ATACR doesn't interest me as I have zero interest in SFP scopes that have max mag over 10x.

I think that sums is up pretty well. Sold off my NSX22 and my F1 as the glass was just so so compared to my other optics. But as well tracking was dead on, except my f1 would get squirly when pushed all the way to it's mechanical edge.

I hear what people are saying however about heavy optics, hence a good argument for Mach.

But there are other far more important aspects in a scope. Frank, can you explain again to us how the brake works?

We side by side a 5-25 SB, Kahle 6-24, and NF F1 at 1k last week l at 15x

S&B NF then Kahle for best glass quality

About 90 degrees out with 5-10 wind... 3 different people came to same conclusion

At max power SB vs Kahle was easy to decide the SB had better glass.

With that said ... The turret on the beast is huge, would have to try one to see if the lever thing is a gimmick or gtg. As of right now I'm not a fan.

The NF is a BEAST, but the king of beasts has to be the Hensoldt 6-24x72mm which can double as a telescope to view the Horsehead Nebula on a dark night

I'm surprised Vortex has not jumped on the 5-25x bandwagon with an update to their Razor HD line, maybe next year.

JasonB, interesting that you mention it was obvious the S&B glass was better than Kahles, I guess that tells you even though glass may be sourced from the same factory (Schott) not all glass is equal. Out of curiosity, how were you judging "glass quality", was it the resolution of distant targets, clarity, etc.?

We put a 3" orange dot on a white lane number board ... Visually the SB and NF had a sharper image and could actually see crisp edges if the dot ... The kahle was more of a fuzzy circle ... SB had a brighter image NF slightly darker ...

Have another kahle with me to compare with the previous and my NF... Just to check see if was just bad glass in the one... NF was bought new less than month ago ... Both kahles are less than
Two weeks old received at the shop ... SB is couple years old I believe. Have to ask Vu.

The first kahle was bought by a club member / customer trying to help him out see if he got bum glass ... Heard a lot if reports of kahle be better than SB but haven't seen it yet

Which Kahles, Gen 1 or Gen 2, I know you said it was new, but it could be a NEW GEN 1, as I believe Ken only brought 4 GEN 2s in the US, and I have one and used it this past weekend.

Cause Kahles, acknowledged the S&B 5-25x was better but then updated the scope to bring it more in line with the S&B with their GEN 2 version.

A lot of it is color, and not actual resolution, as guys will bitch the NF doesn't have color but they have resolution. Not to mention anyone looking through a scope to judge resolution is doing little more than a personal eye test. Usually people who complain about "glass" in high dollar optics, do very little actual shooting.

Still the GEN 2 Kahles, is an upgrade.

The Beast is just awesome, that scope hits all the marks.

No, I never said that was mine, NF has just been in two places I have since last Friday.

I have a Mil Version on the way... the company men are carrying the MOA version as a demo...

I had little interest in using one in MOA

I'm not understanding the brake or elev knob.

The brake locks the turret up and keeps it from moving, if you want to, you give it a 1/4 turn it pops up and adds braking to the turret. So you can set it at any elevation and brake it, or you can leave it at zero and brake it.

The red button on the windage, unlocks that knob, so you have it locked until you push the button, then it moves free off zero. If you hit zero again with it, it locks.

The elevation moves in .2 increments, with 20 mils in a single turn. If you need an odd number there is a throw level that adds .1, so if you need .3 mils you go 1 click on the elevation and move the lever on. Simple. It's just odd or even. And you can throw it with the same motion as turning the turret.

Huh, that's very interesting, that sounds great. I feel .2MRAD is sufficient adjustment in the field, but adding .1 increments when needed would be nice.

I'm not a big fan of the huge elev knob but I'm glad to see a reduced parallax knob, since it's the side that rides on my back when using a sling.
