After coming to the realization that upgrading my Remington would leave only the original receiver (and a long wait), I started looking into other options. I was just about ready to order an AI AE, when I spotted this low round count (<300) 98 model AI AW in the Sale Forum. Since it came as a full kit with the case, extra mags, bipod, sling, and other accessories it looked like a pretty good deal.

I added a S&B PMII 10x42, and installed the Atlas bipod I already had on hand for my planned 5R upgrades. Unlike the AI factory bipod, the Atlas locks up tight and is very stable.

This setup is pretty simple by most standards, and it feels rock solid. Will hopefully get some range time in tomorrow morning, and am looking forward to seeing how it performs.

Good snag! I think that's the one I saw in the for sale section. I'm sure it shoots as well as it did when it was brand new. Congrats on a fine purchase.

Wow that looks great. Very clean looking gun. Congrats on the snag! Hope you realize a full range report is mandatory. Start charging the camera battery

Don't quote me on this but I seem to recall a thread from LL from a couple of years ago regarding an AI amorer's course that he took wherein they broke down the changes by model year. If I remember correctly, Stacy commented that older AI's could be upgraded to current configuration (except the folder), and that basically very little had changed, and what did was very subtle.

If money was right, I think you made an astute purchase.

Good luck
