Can someone school me on the pros/cons of replacing tubes vs buying a new unit? Did a search but couldn’t come up with much.

I’ve got a set of goggles that work fine but wouldn’t mind upgrading to a gen 3 white phosphor. Trying to figure out where to buy them, who can do the work, is it really cost effective over buying a whole new unit?

    Any advice/insights would be appreciated.

What kind of unit do you have now, and what were you planning to upgrade to? What are the tube specs?

FWIW, the used-NV market is a little soft right now with a lot of people dumping green phosphor units to go to WP, some well advised, some not, but that's neither here nor there.

Depending on what you have, you may be looking at taking somewhat of a loss and simply putting that money towards another device.

I’ve got an armasight nyx7 gen2+ ID and would like to upgrade the tube to a gen3 WP if possible but have no experience in what that would take.

This is my first step into NV and works fine but if an upgraded tube can be changed out for a relatively good cost vs buying new then I’d be interested in doing it.

Your best bet with that unit is going to be to simply sell it and put the money towards the Gen. 3 WP unit you want.

I'm not as familiar with these types of Armasight devices as it's not the kind of stuff I've worked with too much and/or that we carry, but IIRC, they use an odd format Russian tube, which means even if you could find a tube to upgrade with, it won't be Gen. 3, though there are non-US Gen. 2+ WP tubes out there.

Long story short, though, I doubt it would be worth trying to upgrade this particular device, even if it was possible, versus simply flipping them, and getting into a new device.
