Is UPS not the worst delivery service available?

Packages that need signatures are given huge delivery windows, and when I’m not home, there isn’t an option to get the package myself. That happened a few times.

Scheduled delivery never shows up, then gets delayed due to “weather” and is rescheduled for several days later. Apparently the lava in Hawaii is somehow affecting a package currently in Chelmsford mass on its way to Portsmouth NH.

Packages that would have gotten to the destination in 3 days take at least 7 with UPS

I always get them to come by when I'm home but I either go online or call them and have it waiting that evening or the following evening at the local facility. It's a pain since they have a new building, you have to get buzzed in through a gate.

In SF we have local Access points that the UPS driver can drop off. I have had my last 2 packages from Crye ($120.00) listed by the driver as dropped off at the local access point but it wasn't. UPS said it is up to the driver to determine where to drop off the package because he is responsible for the cost. I had to eventually wait a week and pick up the 2 packages at the UPS warehouse. BUT today I received a $1400 DbalA3 in my meter box. I think the "Crye" driver was to lazy to drop off the packages.

Fed Ex and UPS BOTH SUCK. They've left packages at the end of my drive outside the gate (which I always left unlocked for them) and right next to the street. I found a $1000 scope laying in the brush in the rain; probably been there a couple days. I've had other people's shit dropped off. One guy left an FAL laying on the front porch despite a call and a letter saying not to leave firearms unattended.

Now I use USPS and have a PO Box and UPS and Fed Ex will deliver to the PO Box if you use the PO's physical address and sign a form allowing USPS to sign for your packages. I know all the postal workers by name and they go out of their way to help me, not give me grief. Great guys. But USPS doesn't like signing for powder or weapons or any ORMD packages. So when I order powder (which I shouldn't have to for a loooong time) I have to play their fucking games. Geez, if they left that rifle or primers in the rain I'd probably have beaten the guy with his fucking clipboard.

One of the HOGs from my old platoon works UPS in your AO, so I called him to see what's up. He said your case of Fleshlights, AnalMaster 3000 and "Long Dong Silver" are not their priority.

I think it's area based. UPS is pretty good here. FedEx sucks. They've left firearms shipped sig required leaned up against my fence (right by the rd). They've claimed no one was home and didn't even stop. Hazmat (powders/primers) go to a facility about 2 hrs away after one real and two fake delivery attempts.

Ordered an AR wall safe through Cabelas. Tracking says it leaves Cabelas, an hour later it checks into a UPS hub. 2 weeks later, it's still there. Somewhere. Behind some conveyor, I guess. They obviously don't care they have lost it.

Call Cabelas. They write if off and ship me another, FedEx. I have it in 36 hours.

We've had the UPS driver not deliver packages because the office was "closed". You know, it's only the Police Department, manned 24/7.
I hate UPS and will always select USPS if it is an option.
MUCH faster delivery, plus they deliver on Saturday.
USPS is typically 3-5 days faster (and it's cheaper)

If you happen to work a job with standard business hours at a smaller company that lets you receive packages at work, then you get a lot better service, usually earlier delivery & a lot less problems. UPS / FedEx charge a lot more for residential delivery, but don't pay the drivers / contractors any more for it usually, so you are on the driver's I hate you list from the start.

UPS pays absolute shit for help too. Years ago when I was flat on my ass, I attended an orientation for UPS for help delivering packages. These motherfuckers were demanding that you be on call at a moment’s notice for over 60 hrs during the week and they were paying a whopping $8 an hour to bust your ass delivering packages. I walked out of the place disgusted. Scumbags

I like USPS for fast & cheap. Ordered a widget off ebay last Friday around 6pm, came from TX and was in my mailbox in MD on Monday. They can definitely fuck it up though, but it's rarely happened to me.

Fedex blows giant goat balls. Pretty much universally been the worst IME, except some actual employees you get with Overnight service. The normal guy I get at work routinely signs fake names, after he was told that if he left without getting a signature any more (we have a receiving person) we were just going to deny getting anything. Still have no idea how they justify splitting their business units and duplicating so much effort.

UPS is usually slow as hell but pretty reliable for me. Seems like only Amazon and McMaster Carr can get them to deliver ground packages in under 5 business days, regardless of how far it's not going. They've always been the best on not screwing up IME, though.

FedEx express side is actually a different technical company, the ground service side started when they bought RPS to get into that business & later a freight carrier for the ground freight.

One of their prime reasons for staying separate is avoiding unions & strikes.
(You'll notice every once in a great while UPS goes on strike but never FedEx)
The Express side is legally classified (at least some time ago) as Airline service with government restrictions on the ability of employees to strike.
The ground side is almost all run by "independent contractors" including those you see delivering and picking up in the "FedEx" trucks, you have to buy the route & FedEx can just snatch it back and resell it with no compensation or change the route ownership rules anytime they want and if for any reason you irk them.

I have almost no issues with UPS. The regular driver brings everything inside the condo complex and to your door.

Amazon drops on ground outside the building front door. Commercial doors open out and amazon traps / blocks the front complex door

I have them drop all packages needing signature at the closest UPS store. Both fedex and ups offer this service now

I had USPS snap a rifle in half and break or lose almost 50% of the packages I have had shipped through them. Inversely I have had next to no issues with UPS or FedEx.

Anyway, my point was/is the USPS is not a good example of an organization that works well.

Well, they pretty much all suck. I did read an article that said Medicare Part B (I think that's right) was pretty efficient. The author gave credit to the private organization that ran it.

The government builds in so much bureaucracy mediocrity is about as good as it will ever get.

I wrote a complaint about tossing packages on the edge of the porch in plain sight and not ringing the doorbell and they blamed USPS and said they handed it off to them. Videos don't lie You will note in their response they gave it to their "most qualified person" and both times I was at home.

Medicare is a Unconstitutional program and should be shut the hell down. Its not a enumerated power or responsibility in our Constitution so it is supposed to be left up to the states. Shut down DC.

I believe signing up for UPS My Choice is free to sign up for, and gives you the option to select packages for pickup at a UPS Customer Center or UPS Store instead of delivery.

My UPS guy comes through the neighborhood around 5-6pm, my customer center is 7 minutes away and opens at 10am...if I want something RFN or I know it is a Signature Required package, I use MyChoice to change to pickup and grab it myself.

Don't know which is worse......you can also throw the USPS into the mix.......about 15 years ago FED EX threw a $25,000.00 check on my front porch......it did require a signature..........

UPS is great here. Great driver and I get packages the next day from dealers 60 miles north. I did have a replacement driver leave a couple thousand rounds of ammo at the wrong shop and it got rained on. They made it right.
