Rifle Scopes US Optics 1000 yard build

I'm going to be upgrading my Millet TRS-2 4-16x that has served me well for the past few years to some better glass for my new Rem 700 5R which will be used for punching paper. With this new scope I've decided to make the jump to mil/mil.

Open to suggestions, here are some of my thoughts/questions:

1) Are all US Optics FFP? I've looked around the site and haven't seen anything about it.

2) I'm choosing the 22x because I've shot at 1k with my Millet 16x and I'm sure 22x may be over kill but "more is more". Better clarity and more magnification can't hurt and I do shoot paper a lot at 100-200 yards and it would be nice to see bullet holes at 200 yards with 22x.

3) Does US Optics offer the Horus reticle? I chose the 'Gen-II XR' reticle and am also considering the 'CompRifle' and 'RDP Mil'

4) My current TRS-2 has a TPAL style which I have grown accustomed to and like, I chose the ERGO based on what some have said about it having one less lens.

5) Overwhelming response on the EREK elevation knob, and for the windage I chose the M40 1/10 style. Any thoughts?

I am currently shooting consistent 0.75" MOA prone with my best group at 0.60" and I <span style="font-style: italic">know</span> I can do better sans glass.

Are all US Optics FFP? they have that low power DFP

22x will serve you well

Does US Optics offer the Horus reticle? Yes, which are you looking for?

I personally like the t-pal vs the ergo(ergo does give you a finer adjustment)

I chose the M40 1/10 style. Any thoughts? I would do the US# 3 m40 if I were you.

I really like the protective cap for my windage knob so I went with the US#1. You will notice the ERGO has a pretty solid following with tactical precision rifle shooters. Give US Optics a ring and they can answer all your questions and some you didn't even know you had!

JF, have you used the # 3? I was a fan of the #1 M40 until I cranked a #3. Now, all personal scopes I order have that knob. I guess I like the finer clicks on the #3 vs the coarse #1

I actually switched from a 22x Nightforce to the 17x USO SN-3 for my LR shooting. I have used a SN-3 with the MPR reticle out to 1000 yards and I've used a SN-3 with the GAP reticle out to 1780 yards. In my experience, the 17x is enough scope for shooting at my 2 moa steel target at 1k. If your funds allow going with the 22x, you can't go wrong with USO.

I had the #3 M40 and switched to the #1 M40, I like the smaller size for my setup, plus I have the #1 knob and cover in case I want to go that route at any time.

I have the MIL GAP reticle, I think it was about the finest lines which is nice at max power.

Lots of options, looks like I'm free Saturday so I'll see you at the range bright and early.

So its not a FFP then?

Just saw the Horus reticle for the 17x for $400... is that because of trademark or patent? Pretty sure I'll pass on that reticle. Knowing that the GAP Mil reticle is the finest as stated, that sounds like a good choice to consider

At this point its about a $400 difference between 17x ($2,400) and 22x ($2,800) so why the heck not?

I've seen the other knobs but haven't really spent a lot of time with them. I think the guys and I all have US#1's.

USO's are almost all FFP; the 3.8-22X44 definitely is FFP.

I posed in your ARFCOM thread.

I highly suggest a capped windage turret. I have the #3 M40 on mine and it gets rolled coming out of the bag. I haven't had it turn at a match yet, but on something with crawling, running or barricades, it's a possibility.

If I remember correctly they did a capped #3 for the PSR competition. I do not know if this is an option that they still do.

Just to make sure it is clear, all scopes are FFP unless noted in their description, and those are only the 1-4X and 1.5-6X with DFP.

Thanks John. One question about your " Erector Centering" video.. I (claim) to understand that this procedure centers the reticle, but once you find the spot where there is no movement when you rotate the scope, aren't you just going to revert the reticle back to where ever it needs to go when you zero it? Am I just that dense?

Yes, basically. What this will do is tell you how much windage you are eating up from zero. So if you have a stock Rem 700 you could be as much as 20 MOA off to one side or the other. If this is the case, when you dial maximum elevation you will run out sooner because you will be hitting the upper side of the tube.
