I was at the range yesterday morning with Scottmilk9 to brush up prior to the match we're going to in Utah next weekend. We had driven (like lazy folks do) to the 100yd line to place a couple targets.
When I went to drive back to the line I realized I wanted to try a 22lr upper out and thought I'd drop a stand off at 50yards so I just left the back of my TrailBlazer open.
I pulled up parallel to the 50yd line and backed up to where I was going to set a stand, feeling a bump-bump as I was backing up ("hmm, I didn't see any rocks"). After I placed my stand and stapled a backer to it I got back in my truck and looked forward and saw my match rifle's case laying on the ground about 10yds ahead of my truck.
After the overwhelming nausea passed I grabbed the case, put it in the back and rejoined Scott back at the firing line.
I had driven rear and front wheels of my truck directly over the rifle in a Galati HSRC case with my 7mm-08 in it. Topping that rifle is the 5-25 Tpal PSR prototype of mine. I drove right over the area encompassing the wrist of the stock, the bolt/action, and the scopes ocular and erector assembly.
Some of the ocular cover's material was embedded in the diopter adjustment's knurling, and the Horus ASLI tube mount was destroyed, but the scope's lenses were good to go. The rifle shot about 1 mil left after being driven over, but I took the action out of the bedding to check it out and replaced it, the rings were tight and after rezeroing I dialed in 4mil "up" elevation, shot 3 rounds holding 4 mils under, dialed back to zero and shot two more and the resulting group was right on.
The group was no screamer at around 1moa, but that's about as well as I hold after I just ran over my rifle.
The TPal mechanism, elevation and windage mechanisms, illumination and diopter adjustment all seem to be working fine! The Horus' mounting ring marred up the tube a bit from the motion of being ran over, but the tube itself seems fine.
I also have to say that in addition to USO being tough, McMillan's stock and Seekin's base and bottom metal all survived great and functioned 100%. Magazine drops free and feeds fine. The Horus ASLI's plastic body didn't pop.
AZPrecision's bolt knob was the only real casualty, but Keith is gonna get it fixed up in a jiffy.
USO did say that if I find any issues with the scope they'd back it up, but I'm pretty sure its OK. I was expecting shattered glass to fall out when I opened the caps!
I gotta say, its a test I hope to never repeat, but it did confirm why I like USO so much!!
Anyone have a rail mount for the Horus ASLI?
