Just got my email back this afternoon from USO so I have not sent off the coin yet so before I do, any help with Polarizer/ARD? I looked through Leupy's on a Mark 4 and to my eye, it sure seemed to dull the image with less light. I popped it off and back on a few times and I could see the difference so not sure why I would want one other than to be tactikewl.

Thanks

The USO's dont seem to noticeably reduce light transmission. Their honeycomb is not quite as dense as others. In fact USO claims that it works as a polarizer and increases clarity somewhat. If you want an ARD, this is the one to get. If I could find a 56mm unit for my S&B id buy one, but they are nowhere to be found.

I believe it would be the best $40 you ever spent ! A good ARD is priceless under certain light conditions. I have shot with NXS and USO in the late afternoon. I noticed the NXS looked all washed out and the USO was still crystal clear. The difference was (primarily) the ARD. USO ARD's are great, all the others I have used really darken the picture and didn't help to make the target appear more distinct.

If you ever have to shoot in the late afternoon or early morning facing within 45* of the sun, then it will instantly be worth every penny. Think about how much you spent on ammo for that gun. Even handloading it doesn't take too many rounds wasted to pay for a $40 ARD. Without it, you might as well pack up and go home. I will always own one for any scope I can get one fitted for. USO, S&B, Premier, whatever.

Do keep in mind, however, that the $40 only covers the honeycomb; not the sunshade it sits inside. So unless already own (or have seperately budgeted for) a sunshade then you'll need one of those too @ additional cost.

Re: US Optics ARD Worth the $40

The USO ARD is very thin metal, not some cheap thick plastic thing. This allows the image to stay clear and bright. It also helps protect that big objective lens from foreign objects should you scope cap pop open or something.

Call me Stup-Id but the ARD is removable from the sunshade. So, one 2' sunshade and one ARD gives me both options?

Reading reviews I get the idea it is not and USO was not clear either. And being that it is metal not plastic......??

Nope. The ARD is an "option" for the sunshade. They might sell you just the ARD but it won't do you much good unless it's wrapped in something you can screw to the scope.

Yes it's metal and of a different configuration than most generic "honeycomb" ARDs. FWIW I find the picture through a USO ARD to be a bit cleaner and crisper than w/o especialy on bright days. It also acts very nicely as a sunshade of ~3X it's length if the sun is low on the horizon.

Cheers,

Re: US Optics ARD Worth the $40

I would go ahead a get one. I have a 2" sunshade with an ARD on my SN-3 and it makes it pleasent to shoot on bright days. And according to my good ol' MK I eyeball, I can't tell a difference in clarity with it on or off the scope. It would be well worth the extra coin IMHO.

Re: US Optics ARD Worth the $40

Its final after many comms with USO and saving for lets say a while. Got it all squared with USO and now just to send off the coin.

ARD oops, that is polarizer with 2" sunshade is on the order, now that I slightly understand what it is and does.

My order says $40 for polarizer and $40 for sunshade = $80!

Now the wait begins..............
