Ok I was wondering if anyone has experience with the Us optics Posa slide and lock mounts? I noticed they have a spring loaded recoil lug, how well does this work? does it keep zero after removal? And just how much recoil can it withstand, As I am planning to step up to a 338 in the future I would like to be able to reuse everything that I can from my current rifle, which is a 223. Also how does usoptics posa slide and lock mounts compare to the Nightforce unimount? I know the nightforce has a 20moa cant but my scope only has 45moa total elevation adjustment what exactly does this mean something like 22moa up and 22moa down? If so with the nightforce base I would essentially have 2moa up and 42moa down? Am I understanding this correctly? Thanks in advance Pat.

Cant comment on the USO mount. I do have 2 NF Unimounts on AR15s. I think very highly of them. In fact, I cant see my self using anything but them.

The NF Unimount does have 20MOA tilt. This maximizes UP movement. In theory if you have 45MOA ELE, you should have 22.5 up and 22.5 down. Throw a 20MOA tilt base into the mix you would have 42.5 MOA up and 2.5MOA down.

Not sure what scope you will be using, but I found that a SN-3 won't fit in the low NF unimount (1.25 ring height). SN-4 barely fits.

I've tried USO, LaRue, Armalite (not NF....yet) all are repeatable if applied correctly TO THE SAME RIFLE (see caveat below) .

FWIW a good set of rings is also very repeatable when applied consistently via a torque wrench.

CAVEAT: Be advised that every rifle is different so you will have to annotate the change in zero from one rifle to another and then dial to correct for that application.

Example: To take a zero'd scope from my 308 (Badger 20MOA) to my 30-06 (Badger 20MOA) I need to dial 0.3 mils left and 0.7 mils down to achieve a zero. Reverse for going back.

Cheers,

Doc

Re: US optics mount VS NF unimount

I like the USO mount for AR's simply because it is the right height for my purposes. However you should know that it has to be slid onto the rail from one end, it won't simply bolt onto the middle. Also if you have a full length rail then a 44mm 1.8-10 (or ST10) is about as big as you can go. The 44mm 17x is too long and will therefore dip too low.

If you are doing this for a precision rig (and what 338L isn't ) then I'd really recommend you get a good set of badger or Seekins rings and a torque wrench. It really is just as easy or easier than messing with the 1 piece mounts.
