What is everyone's opinions? I've been reading on here for sometime, I've found a lot of contrary opinions regarding fixed and adjustable scopes, single plane and dual plane, etc.... So I apologize in advance for any frustrations that this may cause for the daily Hide posters. I'm new, cut me a little slack if you will, please.

I've been referred to these two scopes by a lot of people. I'm going to be shooting in F T/R matches out to 1000 yards so I need to see (as well as possible) shot impact and/or trace (I think, I am kinda new to this). What would be the pro's and con's of each and which would be best suited for my purpose?

If it helps, I'll be shooting a .308 single shot REM700 blueprinted action (formerly a .270 long action rechambered to .308), matched with a Kreiger 30" 5R heavy palma contour barrel with 1:10 twist completely bedded in a McMillan A4 stock sitting on a Harris 6-9" bipod. Not sure if this would matter, but for starters, until I can afford my own reloading equipment, I'm going to be shooting SouthWest 175smk Premium ammo.

Any info, suggestions, advice would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

PS - Heading over to campus now to tailgate and go to the AU vs UF game tonight so I won't be able to converse for a while. Look for me, I'll be wearing an orange shirt and sitting in the stadium!! War Damn Eagle! and Good luck Gators (but not too much luck).

Any companies fixed power is going to transmit more light/better image than their
variables will due to less lenses in the scope. A 22 power is great but on the trace
you may have a field of view problem with the 308. I know I have to keep my 20x
spotter with the target in the bottom to see all the trace with the 243. It has about
28 moa of drop at 1 thousand. Hope this helps.

I think you will be better off with the NF, in 8-32 or 12-42. If money is an issue a Sightron SIII 10-50.

If you want to shoot F-TR with your rifle take a look on the line at a match, everyone up there is using as much magnification as they can afford, and that the mirage will allow. Seven out of 10 are NF 12-42s or 6-32s, and of the other three 2 are Sightrons and the other one could be anything.

If you want to do other things with the rifle get a more flexable reticle than something like the NP-2DD that I run. I love it for targets, but you are not going to range anything with it.

In TR you will not need to see trace or impacts. Targets are pulled and marked after every shot. Your POI is marked with a 3 inch disk that you can almost see w/o a scope.

I'm betting right now that if you spend the $$ on a fixed 22x USO you will live to regret it, to much $$ for not enough flexibility.

For the kind of use you're mentioning I wouldn't hesitate to go with the NF 8-32 or 12-42. Excellent scopes, clear glass and very mechanically robust. No need for FFP since you know your distance.
