Looking at a used AI AW in 308 with I believe a 20" barrel and a muzzle brake. Comes with a folding stock and butt spike as well as scope mount.

Just wondering what a good price on a used setup like this is? And also wanted to double check that the serial number should read

Year Model ######

In this case its 10 AW ######

Re: USED AI AW Price?

With all the bells and whistles that you mentioned, probaly between $5500-$6000 is a reasonable price. Also, it depends on how many rounds. The 10 AW ###### indicates that it was a 2010 model.

He's asking about an AW not the AE, but at least you have your 100th post now.
This information was just has informative as your other 46 posts in two days, welcome to The Hide.

Where can you get a MKIII for 3600?

Sorry but, after having owned and shot both, I disagree. The AW is a much better platform. But then my remarks are based on comparison of AE MKII and AW. I have not handled the MK III yet.

Re: USED AI AW Price?

I have shot both the AI AW and AI AE MkII. Both are great rifles. The AE shot a little better groups but had less rds down the tube. Would love to own either one.

OP - I've had my AW now for seven years. I haven't shot an AE MkIII....but I can tell you the AW has been, without exception, the most worthwhile money I have EVER spent on a rifle.

I cannot imagine any situation where I would ever contemplate selling it....

Sure, they're not cheap....but they are worth every penny IMHO.

Find yourself a good one and don't look back!

Re: USED AI AW Price?

Thanks do the info guys. I picked up a used AW a couple days ago. I'm not sold on the stock yet but am gonna hit the range a couple times this week and see how I like it.

I own both an AW and an AE MKIII, and I had an AE MKII in the past. All three shoot exactly the same with their OE barrels. I have never had a single hiccup with any of them. I won't ever sell the AW, it is an amazing rifle and because I have the money, I bought one without a moments regret since.

Define much better? The glued in action and double stack magazine is not worth nearly $2K. Show me an AE that has come apart at the action/chassis interface, or how they somehow feed unreliably?

Scout, I like the Porsche comment.

On the other hand, maybe your the turbo owner trying to justify why he got his ass handed to him by the much less expensive GTR? Splitting hairs about legacy and finish? There is nothing the AW does that the AE can't, and for way less money. For the average (read non-professional) rifleman, the AE is 99% of the AW.

AW and AE shoot about the same. There is no distinct advantage for the AW.
There are individual variations within the models and some may have cold bore shots that are closer to the subsequent groups but no one AW or AE has this 'cold bore shot' advantage above the other.

Complete BS, same barrels... 99% of the time a cold bore has been identified in an AE it has been a torque issue. (Not to say a barrel issue isn't possible but that is equally possible with AW) The barrels are the same, the round versus square action isn't an issue.

Both my AEs have no cold bore deviations.

Re: USED AI AW Price?

How about the AX, its about 2k over the AW. You get a nice long pic rail and a pistol grip.

People pay more because its the rifle they want. Do they need it? Maybe not, but they got to work out those demons from within.

The AW is the rifle I always wanted and to me and even though I know the AE would shoot just as well, I would not have been mentally content with it.

I could sell it and some glass and get the AX easy, but to me its not the rifle I fell for.

I love my good ole 1995 AIAW 1.0

Re: USED AI AW Price?

There was a recent thread about the cold bore issue and I did not remember anyone calling BS on it and took it for gospel. Thanks for clearing the air on this. I ruled out an AE because of the perceived cold bore issue. I think a AE MIII might be the way to go.

Re: USED AI AW Price?

One difference often overlooked is the slightly odd picatinny rail system on the AE. I am not sure which mounts this hinders but I know there are some that can only be mounted in one place on the rail...which slightly defeats the concept of a picatinny rail. I don't think it is a big issue because there are plenty of great bases which do work fine but it is a difference to be aware of.
