I use walnut shell media from the pet store and have used old dryer sheets for dust control in my vibratory brass cleaner.
They need to be USED and just throw one in and replace it each time you mess with brass.
This has probably been on here a bunch of times, but for those that don't do it, give it a try. Regards, FM

I've been doing it since I started using crushed walnut from the pet store.

I am glad this tip helped a few.
I have loaded for 40+ years and learned of it from my son last year.
I am allergic to something in those things when used in the dryer and into my clothing so don't use them and haven't for many years, hence I didn't know about it.
My neighbor saves them for me now. I take the airtight can to her and she fills it up. Regards, FM

Mineral spirits and kerosene are NOT the same thing,,which one do you use??

Mineral spirits seems to cut down on the dust and evaporates slowly. Kerosene may cut down on dust too, but you might end up with an oily residue.

I use actual mineral spirits--common name is "paint thinner" from wally world paint dept.

Sorry. Odorless mineral spirits.

"Although not normally marketed as a fuel, white spirit can be used as an alternative to kerosene in portable stoves, since it is merely a light grade of kerosene. It cannot be used as an alternative to white gas, which is a much more volatile gasoline-like fuel"

What the mix ratio?

Never really measured---I'd say about 3 tablespoons per load of walnut or corn cob media in a somewhat smallish Midway vibratory tumbler I bought back in the late 80's. Just put the media and brass in the tumbler, dribble the min spirits in the media, put the lid on and turn on the tumbler. In about 15 - 20 minutes the min spirits will be evenly distributed in the media and it will appear slightly damp. Tumble as long as you like. Usually takes at least an hour to come out real shiny, and I have left it tumbling overnight with no ill effects. Works really well in removing case lube before final loading.

When you pull them out of your tumbler throw them in the fireplace and look at the colors. I get a lot of blue and green flames.
I think I'd rather not have that going on in my fireplace. Who knows what toxins are being released by burning them.

What the mix ratio?

I use one capful (from the container) for the entire tumbler load. Works well for at least a couple of loads. Eliminates the dust completely.
