Rifle Scopes USO EREK knob adjustment?

I've watched the USO video on EREK knob adjustment, but I don't have an optical boresighter.

After I run the knob all of the way to the bottom, and then come up 6-8 clicks, can I hold the knob, insert the allen key, and center the crosshairs with a laser boresighter at 100 yards?

Just want to make sure I'm not cheating myself out of any elevation, as I'm not sure what distance "centered" equates to on the optical boresighter in the USO video.

Also, do I still use 6-8 clicks up with a 1/2 MOA EREK knob, or should I use 3-4 clicks?

just go shot it, zero it. Then when zero'd, put the allen wrench on it (holding the wrench in the exact spot). Bottom out the erek, then I like to give it two mills.
