Rifle Scopes USO TPAL

Re: USO TPAL

I assume you meant TPAL vs. ERGO and not EREK, as the EREK knob is the elevation adjustment, that allows you to get much more adjustements in less turns, usually only one turn to get a .308 to 1k. The TPAL is the focus knob, which requires another lens to the internals scope, some like it some don't. On a long ass SN3 it would be benificial to not have to read up a foot and a half to adjust the objective, but no necessary.

Re: USO TPAL

If you are considering options on a USO, EREK is a MUST have in my opinion (I know you aren't asking directly), especially if you are a LR shooter. It is very nice never to be lost on the turret and know your reticle has the full up travel available.

TPal vs ERGO is user choice. TPal probably is nicer - as I don't think anyone really sees a difference w/ the extra lens - but I'm not sure its worth the dollar premium.

Re: USO TPAL

I am having a SN3 3.2-17 built..
I had a discussion around the TPAL vs Ergo

What I was told is the Ergo may be a tad less finicky on setting up, both work.. I will mainly use this scope in known distance shooting.

FWIW, my build has the EREK, Mil/Mil with Gap reticle and red digital illumination.

Re: USO TPAL

I'm sure some will argue, but I never cared much for having to reach up towards the objective to adjust the parallax when shooting prone. It just always seemed to be easier to adjust the small parallax knob on the side. The TPAL would have the side parallax adjustment whereas the ERGO would have the adjustment on the objective. One of my shooting buddies got rid of his ERGO model for this same reason.

Re: USO TPAL

Honestly, I had two new 3.2-17 USOs side by side, one 44mm ERGO, one 44mm TPAL.

In lowlight, The TPAL was noticably darker.

The TPAL required more fine adjustment and was less forgiving.

The TPAL had a longer turret block and required more rail to mount it on, wider spacing of rings, and consequently less forward and aft movement to adjust the position of the eyebox. Not a big deal but worth mentioning if you are putting it on say something like an M14 where the rail is extremely short, or using a unimount such as the Spuhr (which is not compatible).

The ERGO required the reach.

A flip up cover on the ERGO rotates with adjustment. So you have to place it on the scope at the right clock position so you don't have to take it off when adjusting for parallax.

Honestly, if I were to order a USO again, it would be an ERGO. The reach is a weak excuse to want the TPAL over the ERGO. By that logic, no one would want to do positional shooting because it required them to hold the forearm and get off their belly or stool.
