All are invited to North Springs Shooting Range, Price, Ut. 9:00 am. Cost: End of the shooting season special - $10 ($5 range fee and $5 match fee).

Main event, 30 round steel challenge. Weather will determine distance and size of targets. Probably only out to 600 yards.

Side match, 30 rnd semi auto moving targets. Should be done by 1:00 pm. Should have time to shoot a slowed down version of this with bolt action too if you don't bring a semi auto. So bring extra rounds if you want.

Will be all steel. (Turning target system crashed last month so not planning on that this time).

Re: UTAH SHOOTOUTS - Nov 14 - All Steel

Hope to see you guys then. This is the first chance I had to get on the internet. Been to the Sin City match in Vegas. I decided that I need even more practice sinning, maybe I'll do better at the matchs here in Sin City. Bringing back a new target to try out.

Re: UTAH SHOOTOUTS - Nov 14 - All Steel

The weather is looking good for Saturday. There will be definitely 3 and maybe 4 coming down. It will be Scott's first shoot with his new finger tips.

Edit: I may have spoken to soon looks like a 30% chance. I will have to keep a closer eye on the weather.

Re: UTAH SHOOTOUTS - Nov 14 - All Steel

Dress warm. It's looking like cold weather. We will be in a 3 sided shelter area with roof on the 600 yd range and also the Law Enforcement range. They Have heaters in the roof but they don't seem to heat you up very good.

I'll bring a propane heater for warming hands.

While we are on the 600 yd range during the morning, the main cabin is right behind us where anybody can go for a nice place to go to lounge around and get warmed up.

Re: UTAH SHOOTOUTS - Nov 14 - All Steel

I wanted to make it to this one but I forgot its my wifes birthday and if I came to the shoot it would be a one shot one kill kind of day and I would be on the reciving end. will there be a shoot in april like this year? everyone should plan on heading to Toole in the spring Russ has got a treat in store for us

Re: UTAH SHOOTOUTS - Nov 14 - All Steel

Coldbore,

1st annual Deseret Peak Steel Challenge.

Dunno if that will be the name or if it will be annual, but I just made that up.

We are planning on a hike and shoot that should be pretty dang challenging.

Clint, I will be on contact with you as well as Capt Moroni. I think we can make a good shoot out of this.

Also, sorry for taking this off topic.

Don't sweat it Capt. We need you alive for now. (by the way, by how far away can she make that one shot-one kill)?

I got to find a calandar for next year yet but I expect we'll do a 2 day in April or May. I got to check with my kids yet, it might be the only time I get them to do the dutch oven dinner thing. I'll check with Russ about his, I told him I could skip the month he has his Shoot. (that is if he invites me to his shoot). Where is Deseret Peak anyway? I'm ready!

Re: UTAH SHOOTOUTS - Nov 14 - All Steel

I took my wife out to shoot my boss's .50 and I put out a target with a 2" dot on it at 100 yards I also put out a snipers hide dot target next to it that I was going to shoot at. I let her do her thing and she shot 4-5 times when I looked at the 2" dot there wasnt a hole in it she said she shot the other target when I looked at it there was a whole line of dots center punched I was impressed. she is a pretty good shot if I just leave her alone if I try to help her she gets nervous so I just let her shoot by herself

Re: UTAH SHOOTOUTS - Nov 14 - All Steel

Clint,
I am still planning on coming over for the shoot Saturday. I may have 2 or 3 other shooters with me. I have shot in the snow there before, can do it again.

Re: UTAH SHOOTOUTS - Nov 14 - All Steel

Your on my email list here coldbore. In the last two days they predicted from 30 percent chance of rain to 60 percent chance of snow. If we dress like we're going snowmobiling, should be a good shoot.

Put new meaning in the term "cold bore".

I don't expect much snow but I expect 9:00 am to be a little below freezing. Maybe I'll put up a paper target as a "not for score" c/b and see how we do.

Re: UTAH SHOOTOUTS - Nov 14 - All Steel

Hey, would anyone be able to give me a ride to the match from Salt Lake City and back? I"d like to go, but I don't even know how to get to Price except by air, and I"m NOT doing that in the snow! Let me know, I'd love to get out and do some shooting!

Re: UTAH SHOOTOUTS - Nov 14 - All Steel

Had a fine day for shooting, I think it got up to 40 degrees and it didn't start snowing till we got done.

Ended up with 19 shooters. A lot of new faces.

Started out with a not for score, very cold bore shot and a few more shots for people to get sighted in. Then the 13 target main event. Then most shooters went to the police range for the 50 yd running man.

The main event went like this, 13 steel targets:

18" round set at 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 yards.

Silhouettes: 200 yd chicken, 300 yd pig, 385 yd turkey, and 500 yd ram. These were about 3 moa targets.

3" round swinger at 200 yd
3 X 6" oval swinger at 300 yd
4" round swinger at 400 yd
6" round hanging at 500 yd

When we got to the small targets the mirage was moving left then right and back again, 0 to 5 mph. (too much fun)

I'll have to make it harder next time. Bruce hit every target on the morning main event steel challenge.

Main event: in shooter number order, name and points

Clint - 60
Clyde - 45
Scott K - 35
Scott P - 35
Matt - 50
Shane - 40
Dennis - 10
Jeff - 40
Aaron - 55
Frank - 30
Laura - 15
Bob - 45
Stuart - 55
Steve - 50
Bruce - 65
Jared - 55
Kade - 20
Joshua - 20
Dan - 30

Detailed scores with c/b and running man will be up on my website soon. It takes me a while to work up a spread sheet.

My congradulations to the 5 or 6 shooters that never shot farther than about 300 yards till this match. Hope you had fun and were not intimidated like you thought you would be.

Re: UTAH SHOOTOUTS - Nov 14 - All Steel

Detailed scores for each target including c/b and mover are on my website www.utahshootouts.com.

We had a lot of new shooters and I can't remember everyone's name, but the guy who brought the 5.7 x 28 suppressed carbine was kind enough to let some us of shoot it after the match. It was sweet. We all got about twice as many points shooting that as we did shooting are own on the moving target. Thanks again.

Sorry, didn't get no pictures this time.
