Yep, the pics are of Dick Proenneke 's cabin. It was an awesome experience getting to talk to people who knew him, and see how he lived in the wilderness. He was pretty innovative with the things he made using only hand tools.

Any more pictures of your vacation? Just like the others i've watched Dicks video many many times and would enjoy seeing more pictures of his cabin and general area.

I was joking earlier, no offense. You know, I must be a basement dweller loser because I hate to admit I have never heard of this man until now, or seen the films. Seems like a fascinating life and one I could be jelous of if my wife and kids were there with me. Thank you for sharing this and opening my eyes to a wonderful story.

Looks like a cool trip. He built that cabin to last, looks like it is in great shape and has held up to the elements. The movie about him was awesome. Dick Proenneke was a very talented and patient man. That cabin is close to 50 years old now.

Very, very cool pics and thanks for sharing. It looks like a fantastic vaca. I read the book over ten years ago then one of my coworkers gave me a copy of the movie; I still watch it at least twice a year on rainy afternoons.

Just one question for the OP; I noticed the metal wall tent wood stove in the first group of photos. Is the old fireplace that Dick built not useable anymore? That was one of the coolest projects of the cabin building.

No, the fireplace is not usable, it was filled in. According to the tour guide, a personal friend of Dick, you lose more heat from a fireplace than you gain, so he filled it in and put the stove in. The claw marks above the door were from a bear.
