I got a pound of Varget today. I have a 308 with a 1:12 twist. I shoot 168gr out of a hart 26" stainless barrel. Can someone recommend a starting recipe.

I have had good luck with:

42.5 gr Varget with a 168 at 2.81 in military brass. Extremely accurate and very soft shooting

44gr Varget with a 168 at 2.81 in commercial brass

46.4 gr Varget with a 168 at 2.81 in commercial brass using my Remington 700. THIS LOAD IS ABOVE THE MAXIMUM LOAD RECOMMENDED BY HODGDON!

A buddy of mine ask what kind of brass I had. I told him I had a couple hundred rounds of FGMM that was shot from my rifle and 500rds of Lake City Match brass. He said being as I was shooting for accuracy I should use the FGMM brass otherwise I would probably have to resize all the other. Does any of that make sense? Can someone explain......please.

I would use the fgmm brass, just don't waste much time on case match prep( uniforming pockets or flashhole deburr). While those steps are helpful on all brass, including lapua, on fgmm brass the primer pockets will be loose as a goose by the 3-4 reloading. Get some Winchester, lapua, or hornady match brass and prep them right. Should get 10-15 reloads with those mentioned brass.
