Varget Vs H4895 for 20" 1 - 12 twist barrel

Re: Varget Vs H4895 for 20" 1 - 12 twist barrel

It's all about what your gun likes.

Both of those are very good, advertised temp insensitive, etc.

edit: I have shot lots of varget but after trying h4895 I will be buying that next. It is a little cleaner and made a bit better velocity for the same weight powder.

Bolt or semi-auto??? 1/12...so your gun is probably going to like 60 gr bullets or less. And its usually 50-55 gr for that twist.

It's not dependent upon what your gun likes. If a .223 or .308 won't shoot well with either powder, given the right bullets, then you have a rifle problem.

And powder choice has almost nothing to do with twist rate.

Depend on Bullet weigh which the main affect on your twist rate.

With shorter barrel, the faster burning rate powder would better.

I only have a good experienced with Varget and never look for other Powder.

For 155 - 180gr bullets both will work. The 4895 will lend itself better to the 155 168 range and Varget is a good match for the 175's. I like the way 4895 pours more consistently.

Good shooting . . .
