I ran a couple of factory Savage 12s; one .223, the other I can't remember for the life of me- maybe a .308? Dunno. Anyway, they were both right handed, and found that I could no longer shoot right handed (eye trouble), so away they went. Adopted two R700LHs, one .223, one .338WM (Sporter). Both shot very well, but got got tired of the .338 beating me up, so I got a wee bit more serious. The .338 R700LH was rebarreled (Bartlein), restocked & bedded, and action trued in 6.5-284 Norma. Got religion- factory rifles are nice, but custom is the way to go. Then a real nice "donor" Savage 110L in .30-06 crossed my path- went straight to my gunsmith for the treatment. Wow! At this point, felt a bit guilty, so I had him build my wife a nice .243, again with the works, including an AT-1. Feeling the burden of guilt lifted, I had the .223 R700LH rebarreled in .22 Nosler (plus the works, of course). A few pangs of guilt resurfaced, so I found the wife a Savage 12 in .308, that shoots so well, my gunsmith doesn't need to do anything (yet). Now, thinking beyond 1000- maybe a .300WM or 7mmRM with a BABB (big ass bull barrel)? Maybe a .338 of some sort, in a heavy rig. Hmmmmm....... I wonder if my LGS is open? I need to check them for organ donors...
