I watched the vietnam in HD series a while back. it struck me how little thanks you guys received and even being treated badly. I was saddened and even outraged to watch the story told. I want to say I personally am thankful for your service. The soldiers served with distinction over there and but for totally horrible leadership and politics could have achieved total victory if allowed to do so. when you think of your service over there know that there are those smart enough to be thankful for your service. and aren't the wise and smart people all that really matter??

Re: vietnam vets a special thanks

Thank you. As some of us tend to say, "We were winning when I left...". For me, that was in late '67.

There are probably a lot of folks who still hate our guts to this vary day. I've got nothing left to say to them, their lives must be more shallow and bitter than mine.

A narrow mind is a terrible thing...; they probably huddle together for warmth. But somehow, I think it just gets colder still.

It pleases me to know that my tax dollars have gone to help pay for their Social Security right along with mine, whether they like it or not; and they can't do a damned thing about it.

There's only one way to beat a bigot; you kill 'em with kindness.

Oddly enough, I was gifted the series on disk this past Christmas; but I still can't bring myself to watch it past the first episode.

That WAR broke the back of America.....to serve and get spit on when you come home leaves a lasting taste in your mouth...
That`s why it should be a requirement to serve....it would bring the coutry back together.

Re: vietnam vets a special thanks

the reason I grew to hate the anti's even more is they caused the very thing to happen. when people protested like that they put people brave men in more harms way. but I am grateful to those that did serve, and want all of you guys to know someone is sitting at their desk right now and is deeply thankful and proud to live in the same country as you and proud that your on my team, hold your head high.

Thank you, E 5/7 Cav. 1 st Cav Div.
It all sucked.
We went there thinking we were doing something right,
We believed what we were told in training.
We were fools and guarded PA&E.
Not good but all in the past, let's keep it that way.

Hurts to think I was such a fool.

Horse Shit:

We were doing something right..........I wasn't a fool...It doesn't hurt........... I'm proud to have been able to do my part.

I'm with the 91% of the Vietnam Vets that is glad to have served.

I'm with the 74% of the Vietnam Vets that would do it all over again knowing the results.

Re: vietnam vets a special thanks

when i went to iraq there was a ton of vietnam vets there shaking our hands telling us good luck. i remember think these guys came all the way here to do that wow. when we got back from iraq 15 months later there they where again i thought wow what a bunch of good guys i couldnt have been more proud to have them there to thank me. the more i started to read about the way vietnam vets where treated when they got home it made me sick i thank all of you for being there for me and for fighting for us

Re: vietnam vets a special thanks

Those spitting hippy fucks will always receive my wrath when I see them for what they did to a guy who was their friend, a Soldier who served with honor, and my uncle Johnny. Like the rest of the guys who went over there, h ewent with the blessings of a family that has served this country since it started. Like the rest of you who went, I thank those I see everytinme I see them. You were not fools, you were good men who went to do a job when asked. Your service paved the way for me, and many much better than me, and quite a few worse, but your sweat and blood made our jobs that much easier when it was our turn.
Thank You all for everything you have done. I have learned from you, I have given back to you, and you still give to me with nothing more asked for than a smile or a thank you kindly.
Thank You ladies!

Re: vietnam vets a special thanks

I am happy to say my father died a proud Vietnam vet at age 61, he served with the 101st.Two PH he never spoke about it I am glad I got to share his last 2 minutes of life at his side. He took a round in the chest and one in the leg along with a piece of shrapnel in his left knee over the span of his two tours he served in Quang Tri. I am proud of him and feel all VN vets never got the respect they earned from this country.

Re: vietnam vets a special thanks

Sorry for the loss of your father. Few Vietnam vets talk about their experience. That does not mean that they are not proud of their service and the branch they served in. I am proud of every action I took part in, while in uniform and even more proud of the men and women I have met and served with over the years. I have learned the true meaning of loyalty, honor, wisdom, integrity, courage and strength while serving. To me, these are not just words but the core values of my being.

Re: vietnam vets a special thanks

Thanks RJW I'm glad to see more MEN like my father are still out there. Even though he never spoke about it I found a document after he passed away from the US gov stating the reason he received his other medals. I will try to scan it or take a pic of it for you guys to see. My daddy had intestinal fortitude from what I read in that document.
