Vintage Gunmaking in Dhara, Pakistan

Watching that kid crank out 7.63X39 rounds reminded me of when I first hired on with the Anchorage Police Dept.

They gave me a revolver and 18 rounds of ammo. The ammo was 158 Cast RN bullets, cast and loaded by trustees in the jail...…………….no thinks, I carried my own reloads.

But I can see the need (regarding loading AK rounds. I was in the same boat. I was the Weapons Sgt of the AK NG 38th SF Company and we were sent to the Bering Sea to teach native guardsmen. One of the guns I was suppose to instruct was a M1919A4. We couldnt get '06 ammo so I went all over Anchorage gathering every piece of 30-06 brass I could find. I loaded them on a RCBS jr single stage press. But I accomplished my mission.

I think that was the down fall of my hearing. We were shooting on the ice, and to save brass I set next to the gun with a ruck sack catching the brass. No hearing protection. All I can say now is "HUH"

I would LOVE to go there... with about $20K cash and a conex container waiting for me in Karachi...

Those guys may be one step removed from the stone age... but the stuff they can make with files and primitive tools is amazing.

Never underestimate the capability of people who can use their toes in lieu of a bench vice!

Thanks for posting, BW! I'd call that a bucket list, but the bucket would be kicked in the tribal region before getting to Darra...

Cheers,

Sirhr

Is that because you stepped on one once?

I gotta say, I compare AR's more to Tinker Toys, or the Erector Set. It requires two tools, where Lego's do not.
Erector set for sure. With an AR you need a couple tools to assemble, plus something to knock the pins out if they're particularly tight. Only time you need a tool with a Lego set is when you fuck up and can't remove a piece by hand (or teeth).
