Just got a 6-24x50 FFP mil/mil from Adorama. The scope looks fine, but the box is surprisingly worn. I wonder if there's a chance I got one from the original run before Vortex made improvements. Anyone know where the serial numbers start for the new batch?

Vortex would know. If you email or call them they'll get right back to you, their CS is great.

I called and told them where I got it (Adorama in NYC), and they let me know that the store never received any from the first run.
The guy on the phone was very nice but seemed not to want to talk about serial numbers. After the Adorama discussion, I told him what mine was, hoping to hear a dividing line, but he just reiterated that I'm "safe."
I'm happy enough with that news not to feel the need to pester them more.

I should add that the scope has what seems to be some factory oil under the front bikini cover as well as some oil leaching out from the ring just behind the magnification numbers. I've never received a scope with oil on it before, so I don't know what to make of that. The view through the glass is crystal clear.

That is not an altogether unusal condition.
I wouldn't sweat it. I have seen it happen on a new scope going through temperature extremes and have heard of it happening with big altitude changes.

I can assure you that there is absolutely no chance of any dealers having any of the very,very small number of scopes that we sent out in June 2010. Hope this helps.
