glad i I only spent 20 bucks on this piece of metal.
Cant even drill straight holes!!!
Plus side is it still mounts to the truck and I can still
put my vise on it..
gonna have to google some ideas about mounting a press and other things. Saw this cool aftermarket trailer hitch part
that had a raised horizontal plate but they want 60 bucks for it :/
James all you need is a piece of tubing that fits in the hitch. Bring it out a reasonable distance for clearance and turn it up, cut and weld here. Then a plate on top at a comfortable height. Think L shaped with a cap. Drill appropriately positioned holes. Mine is tapped for cap screws. I have a front receiver hitch for a winch and all I do is pop the hood and I have nice wide work space over the radiator. I used to go on some marathon competition trips shooting multiple National Championships and always had to reload mid trip.
MDF99 is helping me with that. Do not have the capabilities to weld or anything. He had the same planned that you mentioned; linked an accurateshooter article.
Local metal shop here can supply cut tubing but that's it. No fabrication. Still working on design dimensions . Thought about working in the bed of my truck
@pell, microfilm fits my fat little Asian fingers (I'll try to fix)
Where are you located at? If I'm anywhere near you I would be glad to help, it would be a rather easy project. I been needing to make one for myself but just haven't bought the tubing yet. The way I would build it is so the riser would be far enough out to allow you to drop the tailgate and leave you a place to work off of and make it high enough so it's a comfortable work height.
