I'm headed to the in-laws for the upcoming holiday and I thought I might try to get out and look for some squirrels/rabbits to get me out of the house a bit. I see AZ has a 3-day license so that's easy to take care of.

Anyone have any suggestions for places to look within an hour or so of Phoenix, AZ?

You will have to head up to the Flagstaff,Payson, or Show Low area for tree rats but rabits are everywhere. You can also hunt quail on that 3 day license.

The desert. Rabbits, both cottontail and jack, are abundant. What part of the valley are you heading to?

Squirrel-Prescott, Flagstaff, Payson, etc. All about 1.5-2 hour drive up to the cooler country.

Thanks for the input so far!

Bloody basin is only 1.5 hours away, but Show Low is over 3, that's a long haul for a day trip.

The in-laws are in north scottsdale near cave creek but other than their place I don't have any plans.

The father in law has some friends offering to take me out for quail but I can't tell if they're serious or not since the laughed at the idea of a dog on a bird hunt and said something about a golf cart. I really don't want to bank on those guys coming up with anything which is why I want to make sure I have my own plans.

I'm supposed to get the 26th or 27th for some "me" time to head into the field.
