Vista Outdoors sells Savage Brand

All they are saying at this point is that it was a group of investors. Probably a private equity firm. If that is the case, Savage will likely be run with some members of the firm assuming a few key rolls in upper management and have a couple of seats on the board of directors. When that stuff happens it is usually around 5 years +/- a bit before they spin the company off, frequently in better shape then where it was at the time of acquisition.

I think it is a good move for Savage. Maybe we will see some good things come along in the next couple of years. Vista is all over the place product wise and seems to have a problem with driving a stake in the ground with whatever 'was' doing well while their competition innovates and keeps moving forward.

Hi,

The current CEO of Savage gathered his own team of investors and purchased Savage from Vista.
This has been in the works for about 3 years now. ATK has been researching and reviewing ever since they morphed into Orbital ATK.
It is pretty common knowledge that Vista Outdoors as a whole are wanting to remove all firearm companies from its' umbrella.
Orbital ATK really put the push on CEO of Savage to acquire the Savage brand and helped him behind the scenes in gathering investors.

Sincerely,
Theis

Very interesting!

Well at least he is in the industry and knows the product.

I just hope he has the desire to make it work.

Seems like he has a loyal customer base and from what I see and hear from owners the product does work.

If they polish a few rough corners they should be a viable product.

Yeah! Now Vista can go suck up to REI and try to get Giro bike helmets back in their stores.

Fuck REI, Fuck Vista!

At least according to the article, Vista is not divesting from their ammunition holdings. Selling Savage allows them to work with other industry entities to develop better products across the board. Is that spin? I don’t know, just what I read in the article.

You probsbly won’t see their stuff in REI any time soon.

Id have to actually shop at REI to find out.

Just got my dividend check today from REI.

I kept my credit card account open - I just dont use it.

Still as a member I get a dividend ($57) which....I will......use to.......buy......more.......ammo.

I suggest every gun owner sign up for an REI membership and use the dividends paid for 2A Rights org donations.

The only dividend I’ve ever gotten from rei was based on some fraction of what I bought there that year. I think my last dividend check was for $7. If I need something outdoor related that day, rei is stil the best game in town- at least that I have found in Houston. HEB doesn’t sell firearms either, but I still buy groceries there.

Usually there is a small profit sharing dividend.

I quit my card early last 2018 when REI issued a demand letter to Vista railing against ownership of a protected right.

Part of the $57 likely represents a few purchases on the card but but based on other basic dividends some is based on their profit.

Finding the US Bank Cash Rewards Cards are making me more money back on stuff I buy more regularly.

What I used to buy at REI I either buy from Filson or direct from the product manufacturer.

Good. They've been trying to get rid of it for awhile.

Vista is great at purchasing stable companies with good sales and neutering their r&d and marketing until they have nothing left.
Look at Blackhawk. Not the top of the line, but generally decent stuff. Vista gutted the product line to focus on one product with a government purchase contract. That ran out and now they can't figure out how to sell now.

If you let the accountants and investor dividends run the company you'll always lose in the long run. Funny how business school tends to focus on how to make money today, not how to build a stable long term business with solid market share year after year.
