Rifle Scopes Vortex 4-16 HS LR first thoughts

The UPS guy just showed up so I had to take quick break and take a look at my new Viper 4-16 HS LR. I have a couple of PST's, but I like the idea of the new reticle, to match my EBR2B. I really like what you get out of the PST line at its price point.

So first thoughts. It looks like a PST, The turrets are very tactile and audible when turning them. The parallax adjustment is very stiff, you will not accidentally bump it and have it move on you. I did notice that the power ring is now aluminum were it was rubber in the past. Not sure what I think about this, I liked the grippy feeling of the rubber, but I guess we will see how it works out in the field. Comes with a sunshade, cleaning cloth and manual. If the weather breaks hopefully can get it to the range soon, and let you know how it performs.

Is the power ring a little easier to move than the older model? I like the HS because of the .5 moa elevation, but the rings on mine are stiff. I just keep it somewhere between 8x-10x when hunting, and its no big deal.

How is the glass quality? I know I wasn't too crazy about the PST 4-16 I looked at, tons of chromatic aberration.

I just got the 6-24 in the mail yesterday and power ring was not stiff and just playing with it the clicks were nice and glass looked good will be a couple weeks till i get it on my rifle will post more up then

I had the chance to shoot with one of these the other day and thought it was a really nice optic. As silly as it is, among all the other things about the scope, I really like the red line on top of the turret that Vortex has.

This is my 3rd in the PST line. I have not had any real complaints about the glass. I might not be as picky or aware as some people. I find it from bright to overcast days that the PST line is on par with some of the higher end glass. Not saying its as clear but very very usable for the price point. I notice when you get into the lower light, is when my USO and the Razor really notice the price difference and quality of the glass. I hope this makes sense, but for my needs I'm very happy with the PST's glass quality.

It does seem a bit easier to move, not sloppy but fluid, The parallax is pretty stiff though.

I went with 3rivers also and had scope in 3 days seems the 6-24 is a tough find anywhere else

Mine arrived mid November and thanks to good weather I've gotten some range sessions with it. Overall I'm extremely pleased with it and really prefer the XLR reticule versus the EBR-1 in my PST. I wasn't digging the switch to plastic from rubber on the magnification ring either, but I put a throw lever on and it's no longer an issue. Both the power ring and paralex knob were a touch stiff out of the box on mine. It's a great scope for the money and still not on a ton of people's radar.

Finally had a chance to shoot it today. I have to say. it is very nice for doing hold overs, If you like to dial in wind etc this is not the scope for you. but if you like quick follow up shots for hogs or something similar. It will suit you well. I'm thinking of picking up another, as soon as I can offload one of my other PST's or the wife will kill me for sure.
