Has anyone else had tracking issues with their AMG?

Mine started having an issue being .1/.2 low at distances, except zero. Of course it happened during a match and I thought my barrel was slowing down... Then a few days later the zero shifted and the windage stopped responding correctly.

It's odd that I never hear of problems with the AMG and two weeks ago another local shooter I know just had the same issue with his.

I have two of them and haven't had an any issues with the scope. I did have an issue with the Vortex/Seekins rings that I got for the scope, the rail clamp was out of spec and not clamping properly which led to zero shifts. The AMG's have a very good reputation for reliability but they are mechanical devices and can fail. I would call Vortex and describe what you've observed- they will probably want the scope back to check it.

What exactly were you seeing? If you are on at your zero range but .1 to .2 low at all further distances that sounds a bit odd because the % of error is getting smaller as you move further out, I would expect it to get larger as you move further away. Also, what do you mean by the windage stopped responding correctly?

Have 3 AMG’s and never had any issues. Set up a tall target test or a box test to check your turrets. Did you re-chrono your load to make sure it hasn’t slowed? Colder weather? Lots of possibilities here. Start knocking them out one by one.

Sorry. Apparently my original post must have come off as if I was asking for help diagnosing my scope. I wasn't, so I'll take another run at it.....

The elevation and windage turrets in my AMG-5 no longer function correctly.

I'm aware of the o-ring/turret issue with the early AMG's, but I was told this was corrected in the later production units.

Has this been a common, but not often reported problem, or is this a very rare issue with the AMG-5?

If you’ve did a box test and confirmed tracking issues, I’d get in contact with vortex about it. No one here is going to be able to provide solid advice beyond that. Unless all you’re after is strickly hearing about their tracking problems.

Have you submitted a warranty claim or asked for a repair quote (if out of warranty) from Vortex?

I have one of the first to hit the streets and no issues with tracking. Not a normal issue so contact Vortex and they will get you fixed up. And the Vortex Warranty never expires.

Pm sent, had a similar issue but was my bad for over torqued set screws. AMG is not like the other razors, 5" pounds on set screws is plenty anymore then 10" wil cause tension. Too tight and knobs will not function. Easy fix though

I'm aware of the turret binding issue and I'm fairly sure it's not likely an over-torque issue with these turrets. You can actually get a Gen II to bind the same way, they'll have a tight spot to them. My AMG turrets never had any more or less drag to them, they just stopped tracking correctly from one shot to the next. Even though I hadn't touched them in weeks, I loosened the screws and it made no difference, it still tracked like it was drunk.

I know of one other local person that's had the same thing happen with his AMG. He'll have his scope back tomorrow. Mine won't be back for another week or two.

If it's not common, ok.

My buddy's AMG-5 returned from Vortex today.

Secured loose erector unit lens. Cleaned and purged unit.

I thought that issue was resolved with the earlier models.

Today Vortex received my AMG, so it will be a few days before I know what's wrong with it.

Loose erector was never an issue with earlier models. The only real one was the o rings in early models. Just something that happened with his. Problems can happen with any scope.

Taken from the post by Dave linked below:

"He had a lens lock ring that had no loctite applied so it came loose. We addressed this on the assembly line and put controls in place for even more redundant checks to keep this from happening again."

Yes it happened but not an ongoing issue to be resolved. That was a singular issue where it wasn't loctited. Totally different things.
