so i received my Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 scope this week and went shooting with it for the first time today. wanted to sight it in and work up a load. well the scope will not hold a zero. myself and a friend did the box test twice and some other things and no return to zero. we both checked the rings and mounting and they seem solid. i'm gonna send it back to them Sunday or Monday to see if i can get some of this excellent customer service everyone's talking about and most importantly get the scope fixed for good. don't wanna have to send it back again.

i was surprised when i looked online and all i needed to do was send in the repair form and the scope. most places want you to call and talk to them before sending anything back. this is a good thing since Vortex won't be open for 2 days. they say on their site turn around time is 10 days from receiving it. i live in Southern Nevada so they should get the scope say mid week? will let you all know how it goes since these scopes seem to be talked about a lot on this site. this is where i first heard of them.

Re: Vortex customer service

Well, it has been stated numerous times on this site that Vortex has great customer service so I am more than sure it will work out just fine for you.

Ok I had the same problem but mine was the PST model, and it was the zero stop all along. Sent it in and they fixed it had it back to me in 8 working days. excellent communication, fast shipping, and better yet great customer service.

Re: Vortex customer service

They seem to be pretty responsive. I called about my PST I've had ordered for a while and the customer service rep was great (despite the situation) and Scott called me back later that day and didn't BS me. He said this is the timeframe the next batch is coming in and we wish it was sooner but we'll work with your dealer to get it out to you ASAP, even offering to drop ship as soon as they got one. Because of that I am waiting it out. I hold grudges when I am treated poorly but I also become very loyal when I am treated right.

Exactly, you should have no problems

Amen.

Let us know how it turns out, I've got 2 vortexs on order (a viper PSt 6-24 FFP and a diamond back)

Re: Vortex customer service

I sure hope you get this taken care of. I now have about 100 rounds down range with my new PST (300 RUM) and could not be happier. Now all I need to do is learn how to shoot. I got the 4-16 and am amazed with this thing!

Re: Vortex customer service

i don't mind if they send me back mine fixed. i only used it once and put about 35 rounds thru it so its still brand new to me. it was shipped today and UPS says it should be there on Friday. it just sucks i don't have a rifle to shoot other than my 22LR right now. sold my hunting rifle to build the current one and the scope was the last piece of the puzzle. this is the most i've ever spent on a single firearm. heres a pic of her with all the pieces except the TacOps stock bag. i do now wish i would have just saved a little more and got the PST 4-16x50 instead. i prefer the 4-16 power but its not available in the standard Viper line.

i was thinking about that. wasn't sure if they would but i guess it wouldn't hurt to ask. wonder what the extra charge would be?

Outdoorsman9, thanks

Re: Vortex customer service

UPDATE: so Vortex received my scope on Friday. today, Monday, i got an email with a tracking # saying scheduled delivery was to be on Wednesday. i have to say turn around time is extremely fast. what i don't get was there was no email prior stating what was wrong with the scope if anything? was the scope fine and i should be looking at something else maybe? i assume its fixed cause they're sending it back or are they sending me a new one? i emailed them today to see what was going on with the scope. i greatly appreciate the speediness of the return but would like to know what happened. will keep you all updated.

Re: Vortex customer service

Look at the paperwork once you get it. They sent notes on the scope when we sent one in and later down the sheet it shows that a new one was sent.
I know this was a new one since I marked it to see if they in fact did send a new one.

Re: Vortex customer service

That is the deal with some of the scopes made overseas or it is just great customer service. To bad you did not get a chance to ask for the upgrade.

Re: Vortex customer service

i did ask for the upgrade but was told that the wait for the PST 4-16x50 would be months. i received a response email today stating the problem was a weak inner erector tube spring. thats why it wasn't holding a zero and that a brand new scope was sent out. thats why the turn around time was so fast. i'm going on vacation for a few days but when i get back the scope should be here waiting for me. i will do another couple box tests and others next week. i will let you all know how it all goes once received.

Re: Vortex customer service

In the same boat right now. Sent a couple of the SWFA Crossfire $99 scopes back because the adjustments moved under recoil of my .308 Win calibered 700 PSS. They sent me refurbished scopes....one upgraded to the 30mm tubed version (though that was appartently by accident, not design). They were gratious enough to let me keep the upgraded one when I emailed them about it. I got a set of 30mm rings and finally got to take it out to the range......windage knob still unwinding under recoil....bummer. Didn't bother remounting the other Crossfire on the PSS as I would have had to remount the rings from the new 30mm ones back to the 1" ones and I was too frustrated to bother at this point and just pit that one back on the rimfire 40X that it came off of before I tried it out on the heavier recoiling PSS....it was/is working fine there on the .22 40X.

So now I am at a crossroads as what to do. Try for a replacement again or ask for an upgrade....or bail? Intuition tells me to bail despite the good things I hear about their higher grade models. It is just frustrating paying to mail out the scope, waiting for the replacement, then remounting and blowing ammo and time to check and recheck for issues with the scope. I have never had a scope with this issue (at any price range) and now I have three in a row doing it......you gotta admit, it is not confidence inspiring.

Re: Vortex customer service

The crossfire is not the best scope for the 308. You may need to upgrade. It is a cheap scope made in china. The vipers and pst are build to take it. The crossfire is good for 22lR only.

Re: Vortex customer service

I want to give praise to Vortex and their fine customer service. The turn around time on my Razor HD for a warranty covered fix was five (5) days. Every issue seems to be perfectly addressed by Vortex, along with a personal note from the customer service manager.

I also want to note that in the begining I received a prompt return call from customer service and the individual in charge addressed all my concerns fairly.

Thanks Vortex
