Im a new guy here, I just sent off for my new rem 700 XCR an now the hard part, I was looking to get the vortex viper 6x24x50 PST FFP But now I have found the horus site and used there software and its easy. now I also just got shooter ready for mil on mil to learn how to range an learn hold over and all that. But to me the horus is super easy. Guys Im stuck Im at that point were I don't know what to do? I love to shoot an this long range is the way I want to go any help would sure be nice. I want to shoot out as far as I can an call my own shots an just have fun! But I SUCK at math!

I think you'll like the Viper a lot more, higher quality scope by far IMHO, just put in the time and do the math

I have personally owned a horus scope and basically the reticle is kind of nice once you get use to it and if you get them in all of your scopes ,but that really is the only semi-nice thing I will say about them.
I just recently was able to check out the Vortex Viper PST. It was only the 1-4 ,but man I was super impressed. The glass was every bit as sharp and crisp as my acog's and I love the reticle design. So if this little guy is any sign of what we can expect out of its bigger brothers there is going to be a lot of happy hide members.
So for me between the two it is a no brainer ecspecially once you consider the price difference.

Fuck Horus square in their ass. I like their reticles, but refuse to spend one dollar that will go into that companies pocket...
Spend your money with a company who gives a shit... I've never owned a Vortex, but they seem to be committed to quality, which is something Horusvision can give a shit about.

Horus owes me millions for pushing their reticles

The Horus scopes I'd rate as mediocre.The glass is actually pretty good!Reticles kick as,my favorite type but I prefer holdovers is why!
Tracking of the turrets are an issue on 2 of mine so I never dial them.Warranty is "pathetic" and inexcusable this day and age...Which is the antithesis to Vortex's warranty.IMO industries best!
You can use just about any reticle with hash marks for holdovers and you can use many ballistic programs in conjunction.
From now on I'm buying Apex scopes with Horus reticles or medium range scopes with good warranty's.

Mil-dot math is not that hard:
1) Know your target size in the units you are using, e.g. ranging in yards and target size is 18" = .5 (18/36)
2) multiple that by 1000 = 500
3) Divide the result by the number of mils that cover the target, e.g. 500/1.7 mils = 294 yards
Only the last is hard to do in your head. Get a Mil-Dot Master for that. An angle-based ranging reticle (either the more common mil or MOA) is always more flexible than a BDC reticle, which can't take into account different loads or different shooting conditions.

Not to be dense, but how is the math eliminated by Horus. You still have to estimate range somehow, be it IPHY, MOA or Mil, there is still going to have to be some math done. The easiest solution to the math problem is a MilDot Master as stated above. Best pocket change you will ever invest.
I thought about the Horus for my SPR project, but at the time their price for the Talon was way up there and I wasnt going to be dropping that much cash on a tube with that crappy a warranty. If you look at the Falcon, youre $400 short of a Razor with a similar reticle design.
I'd go with someone else for the tube and glass. Their reticle is good, but not good enough to sacrifice Chinese junk-esque warranty for the whole scope.
