Rifle Scopes Vortex PST Who saw it at shot what is it like?

Re: Vortex PST Who saw it at shot what is it like?

I liked it a lot. I think Vortex hit a home run with these, but remember that this is an assessment from looking at one in a convention center...

I really liked the turrets, plain and simple with a little window for being able to quickly reference where your at.

Reticle was bright as hell when lit, even on the lowest setting, that I didn't care for, but is no big deal...

FOV appeared to be limited, but like I said, I was just peering through it in a building. It might not be as bad as I think when in the real world, or maybe I'm just spoiled by my 58's...

Scope seemed to be fairly light weight, and the glass and reticle were nice. I would like to lay behind one at distance and play with the parallax.

The guys at Vortex were super nice and stand behind their products. The scopes carry an awesome warranty and it looks like their here to stay.

Another thing I liked was the 1-4! That thing has killer eye relief and a nice reticle for CQB. At only $499 MSRP, I forsee them selling a lot of these...

The guys at Vortex were top notch. I run USO's on my match rifles, and don't plan on changing that, but I think I'll try a 6-24x PST on my new .223 trainer rifle in the future. It looks like they have a very good shot at filling that "gap" in the optics world.

My first impression was that they were kinda mediocre. They reminded me of Falcon brand scopes.I guess that's not a horrible thing. It's just that's what $1000 bucks buy's nowadays.

I don't know what I expected??? I'm too used to my NF and now USO robustness and clicks. If they will track well, that's the biggest question. At least they will bridge the gap OK between the $2000+ scopes and the inexpensive ones. It's good to know that if one breaks it's an easy replacement.

man, i hope they do pan out at the price they are at, would definitely bridge the gap between the falcon and the NF scopes. That will really put a hurt on the IOR offerings.

Competition is a good thing ! I hope the prices advertised are just that, MAP and hopefully street prices will be lower. But based on the hype and koolaid I'll let you guys buy first and let me know

Depends on how many of them you felt. I posted this earlier in a similar thread:

After playing with them for a while, and looking through every single one I could, I can only say that I hope these scopes were thrown together haphazardly to get them ready quickly for the show. I peered through a few where I could not get a full, no-shadow view, period. With one, I had to move off center to get a no-shadow image and a little bit of the reticle was hidden because I was off to one side. One had no clicks on the windage knob. A couple had very light clicks on one of the knobs while the other was fine.

I expect these are issues they will address on the production run, but these pre-production ones did not impress. And I had very high hopes for this line of optics. Vortex being the company they are will no doubt make things right, and I'll most likely get one. But not until they've been out for a little while.

Re: Vortex PST Who saw it at shot what is it like?

Some good points. While the top end area might be cut throat, the very good mediocre market is wide open. I only took a hard look at one of them but I really liked it, and I think that the price will make this a great seller. The gentleman at the booth answered every rapid-fire question I posed without hesitation and I listed him as someone that I would call again.

The focus on this site might always remain on the BMW's from Germany and the Cadillacs or Ford Mustang of the USA, because of the price there are many more people that will be driving this GMC Canyon. It'll be interesting in the coming months to see what people have to say about it's offroad handling....

The common theme/issue I have observed with the majority of optics is the lack of attention paid to the exit pupil diameter. Although it is of utmost importance on a spotter (don't want to chase the sweet spot), it has its merit in a rifle telescope as well. If I spend a lot of time observing things, I want greater freedom to position the eye with respect to the optical axis.

Too me the Razor had clicks almost the same as the NF,very distinct and positive,no complaints at all.In fact I'd have to give it my #1 pick as far overall features and price compared to all the other high end scopes right now.Even NF 3-15 F1 but only because it,the "Razor" goes up to 20X.

I didn't pick up and handle all the new PST's,just a couple.I had the same impression that RK had about the clicks. To me they felt slightly mushy,no big deal....It's not a $1500 or $2000 scope.

I too believe that Vortex will take care of any preproduction nuances before releasing to the public. It'll probably be the best scope there is for the $ out there, for a while anyways.I would rather have a PST than allot of other scopes I can think of right now.

and........Thanks to Vortex. We'll have a reasonably priced scope to buy soon.

Re: Vortex PST Who saw it at shot what is it like?

I didn't give it the full-meal-deal inspection, but the only thing I didn't like was as mentioned above the clicks weren't as positive as I would like. Sounds like they are going to be fixing that issue. They didn't feel mushy to me, just that the detents weren't as positive as they could be. Seemed like it was overly easy to rotate, so could be bumped off setting easily. Other than that, when they were at the setting, I didn't feel much if any backlash or mush in them.

Re: Vortex PST Who saw it at shot what is it like?

I am one who per-ordered one of the PST's and am glad there is some noise being made about the clicks on the turrets right about now.
Thanks to all of you.

If it were some other company I would be more concerned, but with Vortex I am confident that this will be addressed and resolved.

To me this is more of a sure thing to get what I want than picking a known "good" with moa/mil configuration which will NEVER be what I want.
