I'm putting together my first medium to long range setup. I've found a great price on a Savage 10 GRS in 6.5 CM. Currently waiting for my 30 day delay period to be up. On that, I don't know why I'm delayed and there's really no way I can find out, so whatever. Gotta love California.
The two ranges I'll be going to mostly top out at 300 yards and 900 yards, so I won't be shooting past that distance until BLM opens back up or unless someone wants to share their long distance spot with me, but even then going out past 900 yards will most likely be rare. No real plans on hunting at the moment.

I've narrowed down my choices to a few options. I have questions on reticle and base recommendation.

Scope:
I've basically decided on a Vortex Viper PST gen 2 5-25 MRAD, unless there's some crazy deal on a Razor Gen 2, but I don't think it's worth double the price to me for my first time trying something like this out.

-price for EBR-2D is $699
-price for EBR-7C is $780

I do like how thin the EBR-7C is and the finer subtensions but I don't know if it's worth the extra $80... What do people think?

Base/rings:
I'm leaning towards a Dednutz one piece tactical 20MOA mount... but also considering getting a pair of used Seekins or Vortex Precision Matched rings. Would like to hear a few opinions on pros/cons on those setups.

Thanks in advance for your input!

I have 2 of the 3-15 Pst Gen 2 with 2 reticle and use Razor with 7 on my comp guns. I really like the little Gen 2 pst. I think it will make you a good entry level setup.

As for the reticle its kinda personal choice. I like the .2 marks and the floating center dot. Some may prefer the cleaner lines of the traditional tree style reticles.

For me I would go First Focal plane 7C.... I also run Seekins/vortex rings, have for years on all my comp guns no issues. If wanting a 1 piece mount check out the MPA mounts.

I also like the center dot, but do like the cleaner lines of the 2D and how just the crosshairs are illuminated... this is genuinely a tough choice!

First don't get the one piece ring/base set up. Get a good 20 MOA base and rings. With one piece it limits your adjustment for eye relief. Been there and learned the lesson. The Seekins/Vortex PM rings are excellent. Same with the Seekins bases.

As to the reticles, the 2C reticle works well and you will not see the difference in a .03 mil 7C and .034 mil thick 2C. The center of the reticle should be your choice. If you like the dot or the open. Been using the open 2C for years and it's small enough to be able to shoot precisely without a problem. The 7C dot helps some people also. I have a couple of scope with it as well. I use both in matches and have no complaints with either.

I'm actually looking at the 2D reticle.. it's a closed center. Thank you for pointing out the difference in thickness though. I thought it was more but couldn't really tell from the pictures.

This is the EBR-2D:

Where does it list the reticle dimensions? I just saw the pic. Just wondering what the line thickness are for it compared to the other two.

Just assuming it's using the same thickness as the EBR-2C.. guess I can shoot an email to Vortex and see what they say though. The picture is pretty low res and I can't really tell if they are super thick or not.

If the same as the 2C then you won't see a difference between the two. I have 2C and 7C scopes and both are plenty fine enough for precision.

All you really get is .2 hash marks.
Holding halfway on .5’ and favoring one way or another is a breeze.

Both have .1 marks which I like for ranging.
So that’s a wash.

Thickness is a non issue as it’s so close.

Dot or crosshair?
A minor difference.

When did Cali go to a 30 day waiting period? Or a waiting period for long guns? I must have missed a lot.

Sorry, I don't have much input on the scope and mounts. I've been using a 1-4 Viper and their 3 inch offset mount on an AR so that doesn't help much. My only long range is an old Tasco World Class, on an unknown 20 minute base, and a Savage .308 Palma.

It's still supposed to be 10 days, but I am delayed for some reason... I've bought a good amount of firearms in the past and held a secret clearance for a long time, but apparently the CA DOJ still wants to do some research on me. Extremely annoying. Other than paying $100+ to have a live scan done there's no way to get a reason. I've contacted them through email, but they sent a generic response explaining the background check for ammo.
