Rifle Scopes Vortex Strikefire????????????

Re: Vortex Strikefire????????????

The Strikefire are worth a poop. But we prefer cash/check/credit card.

The best "cheap" red dot going. I've known of one to fail in the last 18 months, from our customers.

Aimpoint is pricey stuff, but well regarded.

If you can find an old "Made in the USA" Millett Zoom dot, you'd have the best blend of quality and reasonable price going. I wish I would have kept a couple from last year.

Re: Vortex Strikefire????????????

I had one, it failed (not Scott failure, I don't think.)

They sent me a new one ricky tick, I sold it, confidence is hard to come by.

For a non-duty gun, go for it. Aimpoint is very nice, outshines the strikefire in many ways, but you pay for it.

Re: Vortex Strikefire????????????

I have one, only issue is the positioning of the on/off switch. It is the farther point to the left of the scope when installed normally, and mine would usually turn off when the rifle is placed on its left side (on a AR). Per Scott at Vortex's recommendation (he posted on this site), I rotated the whole unit 90 degrees CCW, so that the power switch was on the bottom. this is perfect for an AR, as it is well protected from bumps, but still easy to turn on and off. But this obviously won't work when the scope is at a more normal height off the scope.

Re: Vortex Strikefire????????????

I have one too, and the only thing is the brightness of the dot needs to be brighter for daylight shooting, its not real bad but could be better. I have my on a AR and if that is what you are putting it on than make sure you get it with the high mount, than you can use it with your open sights at the same time.

Re: Vortex Strikefire????????????

Anyone know the difference between the red/green version and the red only version? I can't quite figure out why they'd produce two versions if the only diffrence is the green option which everyone is selling at the same price as the red only.

Also, I heard there was a minor redesign of the power switch and the dots are brigher than the origional version. Anyone have any info on this?

Re: Vortex Strikefire????????????

The red only version is brighter than the red/green version.

We also recessed the power switch so that it doesn't get easily bumped or turned on when the gun is in a case.

Finally, the power switch now must be held for about 5sec to shut it off.

The newest red/green models should have the same new switch as the red only, so the only real difference is the red only is brighter.

Re: Vortex Strikefire????????????

Damn Sam. A 6 minute response time from a vendor on an internet forum? Vortex customer service is why I'm giving the Crossfire and now Strikefire a try. I suppose it's all part of your plan to get me to save my pennies and purchase a Razor. Not a bad business plan...

THANKS!

Re: Vortex Strikefire????????????

I bought mine from a fellow 'Hide' member and LOVE the lil dude. It helped me complete my own "Scout Rifle" from a .308 788 Rem. Happy with all of my Vortex optics....a Razor is currently out of my league though.

Re: Vortex Strikefire????????????

i bought the red only and on bright days and fast movements i never have a problem seeing the dot, and i think it is very good quality. and its nice that they are local.

Re: Vortex Strikefire????????????

I had one and I was really impressed with it. I didn't have it that long, but I really liked it a lot. I have had several other "cheap" red dot sights, and I would not put the Strikefire in the same category with them. I ended up selling it to patriotoutlaw, only bacause I got a great deal on a Aimpoint Comp M4. If it wasn't for that, I would have kept it.
I had it out to the range on a couple sunny days, and I didn't find the brightness to be lacking at all.
I would have no reservations about buying anything Vortex puts their name on. I haven't heard a bad thing about any of their optics, and only the best about their customer service. In fact, I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of a 6-24 Viper PST.
I hope they're still on track for early June.
