Anyone familiar with these scopes? I'm looking for a hunting scope and the Camera Land Website shows a pretty good price. Looks like a lot of features for the $$. I never have used a Vortex; looking at a 4-16 in either 44 or 50mm. Thanks for whatever you can share.

Re: Vortex Viper HS series scope

I have 2 of the 4-16x44 HS LR scopes. They are very nice for a mid-range scope. Here is a link to a couple of through scope pics I took www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3466844

Now my camera skills are not the best but you can see the reticle as the Deadhold BDC is thinner on the HS. I like the 44 because for a hunting scope you can mount it closer. Sure you can use a cheek pad, its just my preference.

Pros:
-1/2 moa clicks gets you to around 800Y in one turn (long range model with external turret)
-Has indicator tabs of power and subtension mag. for range calc.
-Vortex has a no BS transferable warranty
- Tracks great and repeatable. great glass
-comes with zero stop kit and sunshade.
-30mm tube, plenty of adjustment.

Cons:
-Power rings are frickin stiff(on both scopes)
-1/2 moa is fine for hunting and steel, but if you punch paper you may be x ring, or maybe above or below.

Here is a pic of one on my SPS-V, I later swapped out my daughters 3-10 Weaver for an HS as well.

Re: Vortex Viper HS series scope

I have the Viper HS 5-15x44 and really like it. I would put it on a hunting rig in a minute. Vortex seems to have an outstanding warranty service and is a big reason why I bought it. I got the scope from midway and they are the only ones who sell that particular model.
