Now that Midway has extended my backorder for the Vortex PST another month and a half (maybe more) would the SWFA SS be a better scope to get??

And just to be clear, I have a lot of respect for Vortex, they make some great glass at good price points. I also give them a lot of credit since I think they were one of the early driving forces in getting shooters decent mil/mil optics at regular guy prices.
I do think that the SS will be delivered in 30 days, not so sure on your 6-24. And I really like the SS 5-20 reticle, illumination location and have had great respect for the other SS scopes I've used in the past.

Do we have an actual ETA on product? I just received my PST and am seriously thinking of sending it back. Especially if the SS is only a little ways out. The video preview of the SS said the eye box was good, which is my top issue with the PST followed closely by the glass at higher mag.

Of course, I've never had my hands on the new SS, but I do have a Vortex PST. Given the small price difference between the Vortex and the SS, I'd get the SS.

You have to remember that most everyone going crazy hasn't even touched the scope yet. The hype was the exact same with the Vortex but there wasn't a group buy to push them.

My only question regarding the SS is how many are in the fist shipment. Wouldn't want to order and then have to wait a couple of months.

In spite of my post above saying that I'd take the SS over the PST, I should throw in that Vortex does have, so far, fantastic customer service. From what I understand, they have a no questions asked warranty on the scope itself, so it transfers. They say that if it breaks for ANY reason, they will fix it. So far, I haven't heard of them denying warranty coverage to anyone. I'm waiting to see what happens when someone accidentally rolls over one with a truck or something.
Many are saying that the warranty isn't worth anything if the scope has to keep going back, but I think that in the case of lemons, they'll take care of that too. FWIW when I dropped my cheapie vortex red dot on the pavement and broke it they gave me a brand new one. Whether or not they'd do that with a 900 buck retail item is another story...
edit: my 2 cents is SSniper 5-20 right now and 6-24 PST FFP mil mil when the ssniper coupon thing runs out.

Wow! I feel lucky. I called and ordered my 4x16x50 PST FFP MIL/MIL last Sunday and got it yesterday. They also had 2 6x24s ready to ship. Doubt they are still there though. Big thanks to Schryver Gun Sales here on the 'hide.!!!!!

Heck I hope the wait for the swfa will be less than the vortex... I ended up buying a bushy elite 6x24 which I like but would prefer a .mil reticle vs. the full mil the bush has, if these are shipping within a month then i'm sold. Plus I can sell the bush to a buddy for a l/r hunter for not much of a loss!

Well, I went with the SS. More compact package and the dusk capabilities look to be better but since I haven't handled a PST I can't compare the 2 so I am going off of what biased research I have.
In the end, this is a $1500 scope discounted to $500 with group buy vs a $850 scope. My main reasoning...

I ordered the SS yesterday and called today to ask about estimates for shipping and if a sun shade was available. The guy I talked with wouldn't even offer a guess as to when they will ship the first wave out. All I could get out of him was " We can't guarantee a ship date because they are still on backorder". So I said how about a guess? and he says "sorry I can't do that either but it won't be like 6 months." Then he tells me they don't have a shade yet but they are working on it. Good to read elsewhere in this thread that 30 days has been tossed out for the 1st run shipping.

I think Vortex is kicking themselves for not being able to bring more PST to market. There are so many options on optics right now that offer great value.

I opted for a side by side comparison. I have a Vortex 4-16x50 FFP mil/mil on my 223 varmint rifle (Cooper) and I ordered the SS 5-20 for the hell of it, I will check em out side by side pick the one I like the best and sell the other one. Neither should be hard to sell on the EE.....

Well from Franks video review of the SS 5-20x50 he was saying that the SS is more in the category of the VOrtex Razor not the PST. I think everyone's opinion might be different, but from the looks of the SS 1-4 HD it seemed to be a better scope than the NF or S&B version. I also put in a order for the SS 5-20x50 HD. Cant wait to use it

When my PST comes in, I plan on doing a review of it compared to an SS 10x and a nightforce NXS (friends scopes). I'd like for it to be the variable ss but it is what it is. Hopefully I can post it up within the next week... If it ever quits raining....

To be fair, it takes the 500$ coupon to get the SS in the same ball park as the PST price wise (900 vs 1000). That being said, based on lowlight's reviews it's a better scope.

I like the 6-24 PST a lot, but as has been said with the big discount on the SS I find it hard to recommend anybody spend any money on any other scope in that range. I really feel the SS gives more value for the dollar than anything else.
Once the SH GP is over and the price goes back to normal, it’ll be a different question. The 6-24 PST is as good as it gets below $1K in my opinion for a scope with FFP and all the other features. Most won’t find it lacking in any way. About the only functional thing that may be a problem is lack of travel, but that’s only for a relatively few applications as it has enough to keep most people happy. The glass on my 6-24 is very good.
