I know the new Viper PST Gen 2 scopes are just making it out to people but does anyone know how it compares to the Razor Gen 1 in terms of glass quality? Is it worth the extra money to go with the Gen I razor?

Thanks!

Gen 1 razor is proven and only about $200 more generally speaking. Glass should be better on the Razor and tracking is proven. Any rings mounts you get will be specific to that scope as 30 & 34 are the standards. Who else uses 35mm?

The PST2 will likely be a very good high value scope like its predecessor. If you can, save up and get the Gen 2 Razor 4.5x

If not, consider the PST2, and see if it works for you. Resale will be good/easy. Can't say the same for the Gen1 Razor.

I'd guess the glass should be better on the G1Razor overall.

Thanks for the feedback pinoak. That's a good point about the 35mm rings being an odd size and will limit ring options. I have also been looking at the Steiner T5Xi and it looks like a great optic for the price. Only draw back is I would prefer a Horus style reticle if I was being picky.

Gave up on waiting for my gen 2 pst and got the gen 1 razor. Did a side by side locally on a gen 2 pst and hands down the gen 1 razor had it. Gen 2 pst was a big step up from the old one imho. I was not a fan of the turret size, numbering and the finish on the gen 2 pst. Im happy with my choice its was a $250 difference. The only pain is the 35mm rings but it gave me a oppurtunity to get some nice ARC m10 rings. And as for resale the gen 1 razor has already pretty much depreciated what its goin to untill its completley Taken off the line up.

I was in waiting for a PST gen 2 but ended up getting a Razor gen 1 while it's on discount, it's really well built and I wouldn't let the 35mm ring size stop you from getting it - I just got a 35mm specific mount but you should also be able to get something like an AAD mount in 35mm + sleeves in the future for smaller diameters.
