Looking to pick up a mid level magnification NF NXS and came across the Vortex Viper. You get a lot for the money? Give me the skinny on this scope good and bad as i am going to use this blog to make my decision

Re: Vortex Viper

Also depends on which viper you are talking about. the one that's currently available, or the new one - viper PST. The PST isn't available yet so nobody's gonna give you any concrete info...

Re: Vortex Viper

It will all be good info too...

Where in the same shoes. LOL I was considering the NXS FFP but then I seen the viper ffp for $849 (which fits my budget better) with the same features. I just wonder how the glass looks. I've looked behind a friends nightforce and it was remarkable.

No shit, lets start our own fuckin club. I'm torn between getting a potentially great scope with FFP for $850 vs an over-the-top Nightforce NXS MLR for $450 more...

Everyone on here tells me to "buy once and cry once" yet they don't know my wife...

We'll see, I'll go NF since it's proven if I sell my .50BMG upper I have posted on here, if I don't sell it then I have no other choice than a SFP for $699 if I want to get a scope for my 700P this year. If not, then the 700P will spend another summer in the gun safe with no optic and never been shot...

Have you had a chance to look at the Vortex Viper PST with FFP. How dose it compare to the NightForce F1? I know its probaly not better, but if its close I might be interested in purchasing one. Do you think the razor is better than the night force or on par?

I've narrowed my choice down to these 3. The viper fits my budget better and would allow for some extra money to be spent in the rifle or on a reloading setup. This will be my first long range 600-1000 target set-up.

Re: Vortex Viper

Gentlemen,

I just purchased the Vortex Viper as I will be using mainly for long range hunting and am not willing to spend additional money for that reason. I will let everyone know about it in a few days.
FYI at the point of final check out with optic planet I googled for a coupon for optic planet and was able to get an additional 5% percent off. review to follow.

Your going to be waiting awhile.

Re: Vortex Viper

It will be interesting to see if Optics Planet charged you already for the scope (which if it is the FFP, they don't have in stock). The other vendors on this site aren't charging yet, just taking a list of who wants one.

Re: Vortex Viper

I wont wait to long, I will switch to a NF NXS if out more than a couple of months. Have already recieved notice that the scope is backordered... I did not realize there was such a demand. Must be a decent scope.

Re: Vortex Viper

A buddy just bought it from Optics planet as well, and got the same "due to overwhelming demand, this product is backordered" email. It's not backordered, it's not even being produced yet, Optics Planet is just not saying that. Vortex is saying June.

There is quite a few sites that are already taking orders, and do not mention the back order or that it is not even in production (on the page for purchasing the viper PST). Nice of them to send the E-mail after you order though (LOL- sarcastically) I might have to go NF or with the Razor HD.
Thanks for Sharing this info, M1K3 and Red_SC

Re: Vortex Viper

Just got off the phone with optics planet and they said and I qoute " end of march or beginning of April," so I will see if this happens, otherwise I will switch.

Lol they told me around June earlier in the week. I ended up buying a NF from EuroOptic for immediate use but still have the PST on order. I am going to wait to cancel it to see how they pan out, I think it will be a good scope for a great price.

Re: Vortex Viper

I have such faith in Vortex that I have already sent my Leupold MK4 in to SWFA as a trade on a PST 6-24 FFP when they become available. I hope they hurry, I've had to put the Millett TRS1 back on one of my rifles while I wait on the PST. Not that the Millett is a bad scope but it's not the Razor HD that I've got on my other rifle!

Re: Vortex Viper

Scott,

I truly feel sorry for you as a retailer being thrust into this position by a supplier. They have created a whirlwind of hype, (which I do hope is valid, as I do want one myself)but leaves you without cash in the til until and when the new product finally does hit the streets. This is simply unfair, on the vendors part, to you. You have a reputation as a retailer to uphold, a desire to support your vendors and a duty to your customers. On top of that you have bills to pay in the mean time. As much as I like Vortex, I think that they are really screwing their retailers over on the way that they have handled this situation. I pray that it is indeed "all that" when it does finally hit the streets.

Brother,

Backorders, delayed product availability, mis-timed delivery dates on new products, slow delivery times, these are a fact of life in the tactical shooting market in the last couple of years. We all do the best we can to manage this reality. We don't pay a dime for product that we don't receive, and Vortex's dealer program is as generous and dealer-friendly as can be found in the industry, period.

The internet exacerbates this problem. Hype gets fanned more intensely, rumors sprout more quickly, and "leaked" availability times that are taken as gospel are spread everywhere. Sure, there has been delays in the PST and other products in the past, but I really would rather have the items good than quick.

As for the hype, Vortex is just providing what most of us here want... details, specs, "teaser" photos, reviews, previews, customer interaction in a real time environment.

We have no problem maintaining pre-order lists for all these goods, it's the nature of the beast now. We appreciate your kind support and business.

In my experience as a dealer, doing business with Vortex is as good as it gets. From the personalized service, generous terms, fair pricing, and passion for the product and the industry that is unmatched by any manufacturer, we couldn't be happier.

I'll bet other dealers would say the same thing.

Let me know if I can answer on anything else.

Scott

I agree with Scott.

A lot of mediocre companies will rush to get something out and release a flawed product which the customer is frustrated with. Many times the product breaks and then needs to go back for repairs and the customer loses time as a result (even though it had a quick release).

More reputable companies will refine their product and release it when it is hitting peak performance. Now when the customer receives their product after waiting, they are able to use it effectively and get their money's worth out of it.

Thanks,

Mason @ CST
