Rifle Scopes vortex vs.huskemaw vs.leupold

Been doing homework on a few different scopes. Like the user friendly design of huskemaw 5-20×50. However vortex pst 6-24×50 ffp seems to have more options . Leaning towards vortex. Also looking at leupold mark 4. Want most bang for buck without sacrificing quality for the long haul. Trying to stay in 1500.00 dollar range or less.

You should decide on which features/reticle you like, and watch the Px here(classifieds). You can pick up a nice used scope for your price point,1/2-2/3 of retail price. Also, don't count out the Nightforce scopes. The Bushnell FFP Scope 3-21x show up used occasionally for 900-1200, and they've developed a following. So many choices.... What are you going to use it for primarily?

Mostly hunting big game with my 7mm rem mag. I had a motorcycle accident in 2011 that left me paralyzed from the waist down. I used to be a billy goat in the mountains and was able to get close enough to make an ethical shot. Now I hunt out of the jeep and am lucky to get within 600 yards of a good buck. Want to step it up and of course practice alot so I can make a good shot. Hunted all my life and want to take it to next level. I mostly hunt public land in northern nevada. Its big country and like I said the only good bucks I see are way out there.

The bushnell DMR is a great scope in your price range, definitely worth looking in to. Better glass than the vortex PST.

EuroOptic has like new demo's on sale for 1000.

Also, as DIBBS said, keep an eye out in the classifieds here, buying quality used glass can often get you into the next tier of scope while keeping you within your price range.

For a straight up hunting scope of the non tactical flavor, I would go Swarovski Z3 or Z5 with the BT and 4W reticle.

For $1500 you can get into a Nightforce which will blow them all way. You've got a phillipino scope in there, a scope assembled in the US with parts from who knows where, and whoever makes the abomination called a huskemaw.

Euro optic has a deal on some close out NF 3-15's with MOA knobs and reticle and zero stock for $1250ish.

I agree with this. You can get the Zeiss HD5 in their 3-15 w/ target turrets if you like to dial in your yardage, or w/ an 800 yard "Rapid Z" reticle if you like using holdovers. (Zeiss' Rapid Z reticles work VERY well once you play around with them a bit...)

The Leica ER 3.5-14x42 w/ target turret and IBS reticle should probably be on your short list as well. I own that scope and love it. Light, compact, and incredible glass w/ MOA based reticle and turrets. I'm really going to like this reticle for hunting. Only downside is that this scope has limited elevation adjustment for those really long range shots -- the stops on the ASV target turret is limited to 1 rotation which offers about 22 MOA of elevation to play with. You can get this scope for a great price right now as well, since Leica just discontinued the non-illuminated models.

If you're a FFP fan for hunting, I'd look hard at the new Bushnell 3-12 LHRS. Sounds like it's a well-thought out cross-over hunting/tactical scope that would fit your situation well.

The huskemaw is a piece of junk, priced about $1000 above what it is worth. If you've read about them on another site, be warned, the owner of that site is a shill, a "husker" for this piece of crap. If you've ever handled one, you'll notice they are a low quality/cheap scope. They are touted by idiots. All the above advice is spot on, there are a number of really good choices in that price range. To add huskemaw to the mix, is like asking, "who makes a good small car, Ford/Toyota/Yugo?" It just doesn't belong. Hope this helps.

Did I say PST? NO, so get back in your lane. The OP, although he said PST, also mentioned the NF and the Mark 4, both of which are way above a PST. The Vortex Razor HD however is superior to the Mark 4 and on par at the very least to NF.

The OP asked about the PST specifically and two other scopes. Yes a NF blows them away. A razor is close to the same playing field but he wasn't asking about the optic and it's out of his price range by a few hundred.

First, a Razor is not "close". It's easily equal or better. Next, $1500 which the OP mentioned is WAY more than what a PST cost. A NF can be had in good used condition for $1500 as can a Razor HD. He may not be aware of the optic as his question framed the way it was indicates he most likely either isn't aware of the HD or mistook the HD for the PST when he meant the HD.

You're right, you're not going to argue with me any more. You don't know what you're talking about. You can get a used HD for around $1500 easily as I just sold one for that. The OP needs to know that if he's going to talk NF and Mark 4 then Razor HD should be included in that conversation.
