I'm wondering about the new Strike Eagle too..?
Watched the Cyclops vid, he's funny for sure, but I wish he explained in some detail what was going on with the scopes that got sent back, or maybe showed some B-roll of them at least, because otherwise it's just heresay... As for the Strike Eagles, someone is buying them, because they're sold out at quite a few places and gun-guys aren't usually too shy about hitting the forums when a company like Vortex releases a turd, and I haven't seen much out there of guys proclaiming them shiite? And the thing is, he did offer praise for Vortex's warranty and customer service; their lower-tier stuff is all made in China to hit the price-point where guys don't have to melt credit cards or save for a year in order to get something decent enough to go out and shoot, so things are going to have to go back... but again, Cyclops is obviously no business wizard, because he's missing the point that not everyone buying Vortex stuff is a Vortex fanboy or even really just buying a scope, they're buying that warranty.
Besides, I'm new to long-range rifles, but I'm not new to shooting: if I had to count up all the times I've had to send even higher-tier stuff back to Trijicon and Aimpoint I'd be almost out of digits and looking at needing a third hand soon lol.
I know there's more than a couple 5-25/6-24's out there now offered by smaller names at around (but usually above) the same price-point, but we all know all those were/are probably made in the same Chinese factory/factories where Vortex gets theirs made... so not to be a dick, but most of those smaller companies might not be around long enough for anyone to have somewhere to send their scope back to if/when it fucks up. Outfits like Primary Arms and SWFA are the outliers, not the rule. A lot of these newer companies are selling the same scopes, made in the same places, just with maybe a slightly different reticle and their logo printed on them, often at a higher price tag than Vortex because they don't have the same buying power, and most of them can't tell you if they have the business capital on-hand to be around even 2 years from now if things don't go right...
I know $700-1000 is nothing in the realm of good glass, but it's not nothing, so I'm not just giving it to anybody. So I'm hoping the new Vortex is ok, but if it's not, I know Vortex will be ok, and they'll be around and can replace it if/when I send it back ;-)
Caveat emptor.
