I like the bipod but its very difficult to get the legs down unlike the harris which takes .005 seconds. I gave the bipod to my wife and bought a harris.

Maybe just me, but I find $300 for a simple bipod outrageous. I can see the money for a well crafted rifle barrel, but for a collection of standard size tubing cut to length and a few machined parts? A freaking joke, but they seem to sell all they make. More of the "tactical" thing?
I also cannot stand the Harris thing with all those exposed screen door closing springs hanging out in the breeze waiting to snag on things. I want to like the UTG cheap stuff, but suspect a lot of cursing if I did buy one.

I just received the Atlas and it is worth the extra money. Put in the extra money now so you don't have to buy another Harris, and wish you had something better. It is easier to pay for something just a bit nicer now.

I can tell you, being an owner of the Atlas bipod, that it is head and shoulders above the Harris in quality, construction, and function. Many, many people have thought the same things as yourself until picking one up for themselves.

+2 It is definately head and shoulders above the Harris, and after purchasing one myself about 2 weeks ago I already have my second one. Yeah $300 is some coin but I feel that its worth it plus resale is awsome these things go in minutes on the hide if for some reason you decided to sell. And another thing the company who stands behind it is awsome Hats off to Kasey and Crew.

Not a fan of them myself. Been there done that. A Harris with an ADM quick detach mount and a pod lock is not only a less expensive setup, but more stable overall.
At first I wanted an atlas because it looked cool and seemed to be the happening thing. Glad I learned away from thinking that way.

Is there any consideration for the time it takes to actually using the bipod once the legs are deployed?
Here is a customer (SH member gubicia) demonstrating how fast he can deploy the Atlas legs - LEG DEPLOYMENT look at bottom of page "Atlas in Action" second one down.
900inch - Frankly I was challenged by the cost when we introduced it and kept the retail as low as we could and still make business sense. To date we have never had any on the shelf. In addition, we have continued to improve the design while absorbing the cost.
I would never make such a comparison between a barrel and the Atlas, but for clarity, I think we are just shy of 50 parts to a BT10, the 4 o-rings are off the shelf, everything else is machined and made to our specifications.

Sorry.....let me clarify my statement.

I have used both the Atlas and the Harris in the real world and in competition. The options the Atlas gives are extremely useful. I have used it to shoot through aperatures that would not have been possible with the Harris because even the 6-9" just woudln't go low enough. I know this because I have shot the same stage with another rifle equipped with a Harris.
As far as leg deployment time, I don't know why this continues to be an issue. I have yet to shoot a stage where the legs must be stowed at the start. In the real world I have had to deploy the Atlas legs and set in while some angered citizen was taking pot shots out a window. It wasn't a problem then.
If you are running a game where it comes down to tenths of a second and you have to start with legs folded, then the Harris is a better option. That is about the only time I have seen the Harris work better than the Atlas.
I REALLY need to get an Atlas V8.1 with the new leg collars and go over the differences and strengths of the Altas over the Harris. i just got an atlas, i wanted a more modern looking bipod with out the springs for my tactical rig. It is good
I will definitely stick with harris on my hunting rigs though, can not justify >$200 for a bipod when the ones i have are great in form and function

MaximumVelocity - thanks for clarifying your opinion which I respect. We have never claimed the Atlas as THE solution to all things "bipod" for ALL shooters.
What we do claim is the Atlas provides more features and flexibility that any other bipod.

Still recall lusting after a Parker-Hale bipod to fit the flush rail on my Steyr SSG, a few decades ago. The damn thing was up in this price range, actually I think $350, and well beyond what I could afford. Beautiful part though. Far as I know, P-H is long gone now.

Just ordered an Atlas BT-10 today. I figured by the time I order another Harris ($95), bipod adapter ($30), and a PodLoc ($25), I'm up to $150 anyways. For an extra few dollars I'll give the Atlas a try.

It was just one small frustration I had with the legs. I also had to keep tightening the tension screw about every 50 rds as it kept getting loose. Its a nice looking bipod but I found it frustrating in those two areas.
If you could solve the leg deployment issue and tension knob getting loose you have the perfect product.
If you do not have the designer to do that I just worked with a kid that designs robotics that is smart as a whip and I could send you his contact info. He drafted a part for me and it is exactly what I asked for.

I personally prefer the push button lock as accidental leg deployment is a concern. I can use the folded legs pressed up against a barrier or manually articulate the legs into whatever position I want. Speed isnt an issue for me because I normally set the legs before i go running into a firefight.
Problemchild - if you cant figure out the leg deployment or the tension screw knob issue but you gave the Atlas to your wife, what's that saying? She's either figuring out these issues (I don't have issues with either) or you are a lousy husband that gave your wife a POS,
I personally prefer the push button lock as accidental leg deployment is a concern. I can use the folded legs pressed up against a barrier or manually articulate the legs into whatever position I want. Speed isnt an issue for me because I normally set the legs before i go running into a firefight.

I took from the statement above your issue was the deployment of the legs, not manipulating them into the various positions once deployed as you stated here; <span style="font-weight: bold">Leg deployment (must remember to not put pressure on legs when trying to push button and need to look at opposite side to find button)</span>
I'll respectfully suggest the issue of all manipulation is resolved with time and use.
I'll also admit that the Atlas is not as fast as the Harris. The slower push button leg deployment by design, prevents the legs from accidentally folding up.
I remain curious if there is any consideration for the time it takes to actually use the Atlas to acquire the target?
Why does the clock stop at the "legs are slow to deploy"? Shouldn't the clock stop at target engaged?
I'll leave the Tension Knob topic alone for now.
