It seems like most of what I've read about these has been negative. Is this just the vocal minority talking? I've read that the bolt on this action might affect the pull weight on some triggers. Does this affect all triggers? I'm using a CG mod 22. Are the reports of an extremely heavy bolt lift rare?

I'm thinking about this or the Nucleus. The Nucleus being 72* isn't much more than the Tempest. I don't need a switch barrel set up.

Good luck buying one. I called them for 10 days straight and no one answered the phone. I guess their “busy.”

Ended up buying a Vector and think I’m going to be happier.

For the money I'd get a Curtis Axiom or Vector if I wanted 60 degree bolt throw. It'd probably be a long time before you got a Nucleus action because of the enormous demand for them that ARC didn't expect.

I'm not interested in the Curtis actions...

I have read that thread before, it seems like most issues come from trigger selection. Has anyone ran a CG Xtreme mod 22 in their tempest actions?

I ran the CG mk13 trigger for a short time. Worked fine in a 20 hanger, though the hanger had to be widened for it to fit. ultimately, I went back to a single stage.

I had one in 6.5CM built by GAP, was fast to work that action and a joy to shoot - mine was pre-Meolonite so they cerakoted it - big mistake, that cerakote clogged up the action. Sold the gun as i got out of 6.5CM ... now running ARC actions and Bighorns ...

Biggest PITA was the hangers - i ran a huber on mine and it was fine, but tried some other triggers and was a pain to get em to work. GA recommends Diamondtech triggers, but they dont make a 2st ...

Anyways - my ARCs and Bighorns run fine ...

Zero issues with both of mine. Both have had jewels and now TT diamonds. Use them pretty much esclusivley in competition and again. Zero issues. Both built by gap

Ive owned two (both pre melonited and current melonited) and setup is key for the trigger and how well it works in general. Ultimately the goal is to get .180-.190" protrusion on the firing pin piece that comes out of the back of the bolt shroud in the back. The closer to .180" the more "true" the trigger pull will be. By true i mean if I set my trigger to 1.5lbs on my remington then throw it into the tempest with the best fit trigger hanger the closer it will be to 1.5lbs. The more protrusion the more firing pin spring is being compressed and creating more pressure for the trigger to overcome when cocked and create a heavier bolt lift.

CG extreme is specifically mentioned in the trigger setup sheet the tempest comes with and says will not work without modification and is not recommended.

Hubers work...bix'n andy (tacsport and others work, they even made their own hanger for the tempest), timney 2 stage works. If you want a 2 stage...

If you've read it has issues firing CCI primers ive fired ONLY cci primers, regular/benchrest/magnum small and large without a single missfire. My guess is either improper sizing, less than .180 pin protrusion, or the firing pin grub screws have loosened and caused some issues (if you buy one make sure you blue loctite both screws).

Breech ring can be kind of sharp on brass...i take 2000grit sandpaper and just smooth out all the edges. Not necessary but its a detail that takes 5 minutes.

Ive handled a curtis, ultimatum deadline and own an AI...AI and Tempest are my favorite and my main comp rifle is the tempest. Just as smooth as my AI, equal if not lighter bolt lift. I don't think youll regret it. Look at OTM Tactical for the action as that's where I've bought both of mine. Seem to usually have them in stock. Note: they only come with one trigger hanger now and not all 3. I forgot which but email/call GAP you want to buy the other 2 trigger hangers.

Thank you all, this has been very helpful. @FUNCTIONAL ,what did you like more about the Tempest vs the Deadline?
It looks like if I want a tempest, I'll need a new trigger as well.

The deadline bolt lift just felt heavier. I also believe 60degree bolts should be made with a bent bolt handle like the tempest and AI. It just feels like you can run the action better/faster/harder. I also have two buddies who have had to play with mag catches quite a bit to get it to feed correctly with any mag. I also am not a fan of T slot (sako) style extractors. Could be a bad taste in my mouth from savage failing and wearing out seasonally but the m16 style of the tempest is pretty robust.

Curtis was nice...really not many complaints but i have seen it have some feeding issues and the lack of a bent bolt handle pushed me back into my tempest for my latest build.
