Picked up this rifle about two years ago on a whim. I was familiar with the KAC name and their quality, and have had a few of their more recent production guns, but this one has me a bit puzzled. I cant seem to find anything online about it. It appears to be a pre- "mod1/2" series SR-15 with their in house version of FDE ( I think they called it 'taupe'). also has their rail-integrated front sight and supposedly came factory with their 600m rear sight according to the original owner. I included the link below that was the only useful breadcrumb I found referencing its original manufacturing run. Any additional info such as manufacture date estimation, an original price or SKU/MPN would be appreciated!

Basically these were the mini EC's to the SR25 EC.

As your thread said, they only had a limited run of 500 or so but I have no idea as to why.

KAC URX II rail, 16" chrome moly barrel.

If I remember right, these were going for 2800 or so.

That's pretty cool. The handguard and the color were what really confused me since, as far as I can tell, neither are in production any more. Honestly, the only reason I picked up this one is BECAUSE it looked like a mini-EC. I'd love to own its big brother some day, but people want STUPID money for them. Is this like Larue rifles where I should value it at 1K over retail since its a limited Item?. Also, with me NOT being the original owner and not having any of the original papers, whats that do for the warranty on it?

KAC has solid customer support. Taupe KG Gunkote over anodizing limited run.

I wouldnt say its a mini EC as these were around several years before the EC.

Im a member of the KAC cult fanboy association so a bit biased in my opinion these are the pinicle of the AR platform. Others may not agree but to each their own.

Lol as for value if I were selling it I would ask 3k. Wouldnt post it for that here as you would be laughed at but on Barf.com people would be tripping over each other to snag it. If you had original box and paperwork etc the price would be more.

Saw a URX 3.1 12.5" sell for $1500 not long ago...thats just the frigging handguard. There is a serious KAC collector circle where money is an afterthought.

Cool rifle, but I doubt you'll get anywhere close to 3K considering all the wear there is on the lower.

KAC's customer service is pretty responsive, but I am not confident they would cover you under warranty. Technically their warranty only covers the initial owner for 1 year. If you have issues though, contact Adam Pini or Jack Leuba. They are both active on ARFcom and would be able to give you a definitive answer.

As far as warranty, I'd just call KAC. Anytime I've called or emailed them I've always been surprised in how willing they were to help.

For the value, I don't think there is anything special about the rifle other than its a limited run. This isn't the turn-in EMC's from a few years ago. Given that with the later SR15 variants basically every part of that rifle has been upgraded, I think you should honestly just hang onto it, especially now while we are in a AR market that has hit the floor.

The only thing that would skyrocket its value is if this run was from something special that will get people to see it as more than just a rifle. If these were used by some super secret team and turned in or some shit, for example. But if I remember right, these were just a run in taupe just because.

and the lack of original panels, grip and stock. .

What panels are missing? and are you saying this is not the original grip and stock, or just commenting on the wear on them?

FWIW, I'm not looking to sell this rifle anytime soon. it was bought to be my every-day rifle, and is performing admirably, so I see no reason to get something else.

Afraid not. The grip should be an A2 style (taupe) and KAC rail panels and VFG (both in taupe) and an LMT SOPMOD in FDE.

If I were to take a guess the original owner probably sold those parts because at the time they were very rare and expensive. Look at cost of taupe furniture on operation parts website and factor in that color was perpetually out of stock and you see guys paying $40.00 per panel on the other forums.

I would suggest verifying the trigger is original as you often will see those sold off from complete rifles.

Dont read too much into what Im saying its a great rifle, proprietary features sets it way over the other AR's.

From a KACaholic standpoint its blasphamy to break up or part out a limited run gun.

Panels retail for 25.00 BUT Taupe and FDE are not unicorns but more like endangered Rhinos. Collectors will pay top dollar for some otherwise trivial parts.

Been looking for a rail for a friend that retailed for $275.00 he told me if I find one buy it if its under $700.00 Thats the stuff you see frequently with KAC items that were rare.

Cant say this applies to all of them but there should be either an "S" or "KAC" on the web behind the face of the trigger on the side. Also the overtravel agustment screw should be on the side of the trigger spring channel not internal.

Google KAC trigger ID there are threads out there with good info.

Also search Taupe KAC E3 and you will see pics of original configuration.

Immediately noticed missing original parts as well. And the trigger guard is black. Might be worth seeing if KAC would be willing to do a SN check.

While it's possible the original owner stripped & hawked off the accessories, it's also plausible the guy had his black SR15 koted and added the non-factory fde parts...
