I have several 7 mag brass that I have re-sized, trimmed and primed. Upon further inspection I find the brass needs some further prep. What would be the best procedure to remove the primers? Would you dry fire or can they be gently pushed out with a universal decapping die?

Re: Want to remove primers

Just knock them out with any die with a decapping pin, either FLS or universal.

Feel free to re-use the primers, they'll still be G2G.

Re: Want to remove primers

I've done several.Just go slow and easy.Safety glasses and gloves would not hurt, although I've never set one off.I've never re-used a primer, but I have not deprimed any since the price went out of sight. Lightman

Re: Want to remove primers

I knocked out 185 today but I did wear safety glasses just in case.

I had a bunch of cases ready for powder and now I want to get them annealed so that is why I knocked out the good primers.

How do you dispose of unfired primers ?

Re: Want to remove primers

Make them inert - WD40 or oil. then pitch them

Re: Want to remove primers

I never had a problem pushing out live primers or re-using them. Never a worry about them going off. Hell I've T-totally CRUSHED live primers priming on my RCBS press when I got a round that somehow missed the crimp removal step. Never once has one offered to ignite.

Re: Want to remove primers

Thanks for your input gentleman. I will cautiously proceed pushing them out, give them a shot of WD 40 and chunk them. I knew some of you had been there and done that. Thanks.
