Warped case necks?

I have been reloading for about a year. I have had some good success so far. I research loads and then build and test them. I have a friend's 6mm br rifle from the 60's that belonged to his dad. He gave me some brass to load that his dad had reloaded God knows how many times. I found that some of the case necks were warped so bad that I can actually see it when I roll them across my bench. I ordered some new Rem brass. I found 4 out of the first 25 that wobbled when rolled across my bench. When loaded I can see the bullet wobbling up and down. I haven't seen this with any other caliber. Is there a die that can straighten the neck? Apparently the resizing die doesn't. I am using forster fl/br seater dies. Any help will be appreciated.

I would think a sizing die will do it and if not, need new brass. I wonder if the chamber is cut correctly??

Clean the sizing die, shell holder and apply a small amount of lube to the inside of the neck (assuming this is not a bushing die). You can also put a very, very slight amount of lube on the outside of the neck, just don't get too slose to the shoulder.

Edit: Lube on neck is in addition to lube on the body.

Some of the new brass has the case necks warped(never been sized). I would think the resizing die would straighten the neck.

Are you sure the necks are not strait? Rolling them on glass (or similar) is not a good way to tell. If the head is slightly out of round, it could be fooling your eyes.

How does it shoot?

The used brass shot all over the paper. I haven't shot the new brass yet. Going in the morning to test rounds.

First off, which 6mm BR do you have? The Remington or the Norma? That will determine which bullets are appropriate for it, before we head off the wrong way to start. What bullet weights are you using that are giving such poor results?

It's rem custom with 26" bull barrel. Loading 105gr bthp. The gun shoots factory ammo fine. My concern is the warped brass. I wouldn't expect new brass to be warped. Just want to know if there is a die that will straighten the neck.

It shoots the 105 factory stuff fine? Just trying to confirm the twist rate here; that's the primary difference between the Norma and Remington versions.

According to the owner it shoots one hole groups
@ 100yds with hornady factory loads. I haven't got to the shooting test yet. I'm still in the why are the cases warped and if I can straighten them phase. lol

I don't have a concentricity gauge. But I can see the case necks wobble when rolled. It is really noticeable after loaded. The new cases(unfired) showing this issue is what has me concerned.

This is what I'm trying to find out; have you actually shot the gun and found that it groups with factory ammo? If so, what weight?

Until you actually do some shooting with this, you don't even know you have a problem yet.

I loaded some of the old brass he got with the gun. The owner shot the test loads. He brought me the targets and the gun. There was only one load that could be considered a group and the other loads were all over the paper. I knew it wasn't my reloading skills. So I told him I would keep the gun and shoot the next round of test loads my self. According to some mutual friends, he is a good shot. I know of deer he has taken out to 500yds with this rifle. I inspected the gun and found the rear base loose. It has a junertl 20x scope that is as long as the gun. I'm geussing that was the issue with the non groups. But, why is the new brass(not sized, loaded, or fired yet) warped like the old brass.

The only dies I have used are forster bench rest dies(ultra seater sets). I don't know much about neck bump dies or any others for that matter. My question is "is there a die or tool I can use to straighten the neck from the shoulder up. And is it nornal to find 1 out of 5 new cases warped?" I haven't had this issue with any other caliber.

I'd need to see the cases, and be able to measure just what you're seeing here to sort this one out. Somethings just don't translate well to a keyboard.
