When I made up the course of fire for yesterday's match, I didn't intend for it to be really easy, or hard. Maybe what has really happened isn't that our courses of fire are getting easier, rather, it is that the skill level of most of the shooters at the matches has improved quite a bit, thereby making the course of fire seem easier to them.
After the match yesterday, Kevin, Scott and I were discussing how we have noticed that the skill level of the shooters has been improving noticeably.
The more people practice, the easier those tasks seem to be, and the luckier they seem to get.
First of all, it was an AWESOME match. It was well thought out, well implemented, and well played. When almost half of the field are PRS shooters, some of them professional, you are going to see them clean the stages handily.
If you make the stages too hard, then only the pros do well, scaring off the amateurs. If you make it too easy, then the pros do not show up. I would recommend a class system. At my local matches, they have 4 different classes, based on scores from previous matches. Everyone starts out in a certain class and then when they reach a threshold, then they move up a class, or go down, as the case may be. This is similar with USPSA matches. The only problem is that with the matches varying so much from month to month, it might be hard to tell where the lines must be drawn. Our matches in Reno are easy because they are the same from match to match.
I can only say how IMPRESSED I was with how things went. Everyone had an amazing attitude, the match ran smoothly and everyone had a great time. I think it had something to do with the professionalism from the participants and the organizers. I was very surprised it finished at 2:00pm. Unfortunately I had to get home and could not stay longer. I rolled into my house in Reno around 1:30am tired, but still happy. I was able to spend Sunday with my family, which I was missing deeply from being away for a week.
I really want to do the match again, but it might be difficult given my schedule and kids. I will see about the match in September.
