Waterproof Iphone. ((NO CASE))

This is a good friend of mine newest thing. This is really a game changer. This is not a case for your phone. But a gas treatment that waterproofs the whole insides of the latest smart phones. It got the rating for waterproofing of 3 feet for 30 minutes. Does not void the warranty of your phone. I just got mine Iphone 4S done. Looking at the phone you cant even tell that it has any kind of waterproofing done to it. Everything still works the same. Nothing changes as far as using you phone other than it is waterproof. It is sweet! I even stuck it in the sink to test it out. Thing this is going to be great for those of us using a phone for ballistic calculators in the field. No you don't need to worry about them getting wet.

Re: Waterproof Iphone. ((NO CASE))

Cool. I'll wait for an extended use, real world review before I commit, though.

Nothing like a 6 months test time between now and an expired warranty

+1 on the Impact protection. My I phone gets banged around a lot. Love the outer box. But that is a good idea. I have nearly droped my phone in the craper. (dont ask how)

Re: Waterproof Iphone. ((NO CASE))

I think this is a great idea, but like most of the other members I need impact protection way more. I suppose if I could drop my phone off at the Apple store, and get it done for $20 I'd do it. My plan is to get the case I saw here, where the guy's throwing it around in the snow.

Re: Waterproof Iphone. ((NO CASE))

It's not like you can't still use your favorite case for impact protection...

Personally, I prefer a simple Magpul case vs those super bulky Otter Boxes. This would give me the water proof protection while using a slimmer case.

My thing is the headphones... I want to use my Pandora on long swim days with waterproof headphones. I wonder if the coating would be compromised by use of the headphone jack over time...

Re: Waterproof Iphone. ((NO CASE))

Liked my otterbox alot, but this Lifeproof case is one hell of a lot easier to get in and out of a pocket. I had the same thought about the headphones. I rarely use them but while I am on my bike I like to listen to some tunes. I guess if you used this and a lifeproof or otterbox case. It would be like wearing two condoms at once.... protective yes, effective yes, superfluous probably, potentially problematic unknown.

Did make me wonder why they were so quiet on the name of the process for bonding the coating if it is a naturally occurring thing? I understand cooperate secretes and operational security to protect their investment, but I'm naturally curious...

Re: Waterproof Iphone. ((NO CASE))

apple uses a little spot inside a plug hole that turns red if it has gotten wet. Can't
remember whether it's the main sync port or headphone port. just a fyi.

Re: Waterproof Iphone. ((NO CASE))

Some of the security is due to patents. This is a patent pending process.

Yes the does not add any extra protection from damage from dropping your phone. They are working with Verizon now to get phone treated straight from the store. The new Motorola Razor has the treatment done. I guess working with mangers of different cell phone stores, they say that most of the phones that come back for warranty issues is from water damage. So this will help save the retail stores money.

As for using your headphone jack, or charging jack will not effect the waterproofing protection at all. Use them all you want.

The treatment coats the water sensor on all phones. So it will never go off. So if you ever have to get a new phone. They cant turn you down because it got wet due to the water sensor going off in the phone.

Re: Waterproof Iphone. ((NO CASE))

Wonder if they can do an iPad? I caught my 3 y/o son trying to take it into the bath tub last night... I can't seem to convince him it isn't a bath toy.

Re: Waterproof Iphone. ((NO CASE))

That's pretty cool that it can go into the molecular level.

I have been eyeing this coating. http://www.neverwet.com/

Watch the demos. They also submerge a phone for 30 minutes. The kicker is when they pour liquids like chocolate, apple sauce and a bunch of other sticky liquids on something porous and it just rolls right off. The possibilities with this stuff is endless.
