I asked about good quality recommendation, not how to build my own personal Fort Knox. So if you had stayed on my topic rather than make it about your "How great my "gun and security industry" knowledge is"...that would have more sufficient to cover my question. So for the record AND if I understand the materials correctly: 7 ga steel might be the same as 3/16". Same material description as used in a Sturdy Safe (3/16") and the higher end Liberty Safe (7ga)....Well guess those are both RSC's to be technically correct.

Yes, for the $$$$ Sturdy Safe tends to drive additional material options over Liberty. I do like that part about their product line.

Yes, I found the suggestions for using Craigslist to locate other TL30 rated "safes" or other ratings for a better $$$$ for product. Just need to find the right size for my applications.

I already learned there's multiple ratings that apply to various UL testing, fire testing protocols...etc etc etc....

From others I did learn a quite few things....from some it's the typical mentality of "nothing is better than mine".

If I were you, I’d call Southland Safes and look at Winchester, Sturdy, Summit Safes or Graffunder. Or buy a used TL30. I’m sure there are some guys that deal with used stuff in your area. Talk to Darryl at Southland.

Sturdy Safes tend to have decent /packages options BUT in their Standard Package aren't that much better than other RSC's.

Summit shows a better option like Sturdy Safe. More reading required.

Winchester from what I found uses 10ga steel at best for the body. They are out.

In all seriousness, why not beef up a closet and put a good solid door on it with some good locks? Would be much cheaper and do pretty much the same thing. Then add your layered security on top of that. I’m also pretty sure you can get a used graffunder at Southland. Might be something to look into. Winchester actually used to be a bargain for the money. You could pick up a 10 gauge at one time for a whopping $750, but they ain’t pretty. I don’t know what they go for these days.

You also might contact a couple safe moving companies. Safes can be like pool tables. People move and may no longer have use. One of mine came from a software engineer who used it to store backups.

I'm not against "interior upgrades", but not looking to make upgrades right now. I even looked into the "fire rating" of sheetrock to understand what's what. That was knowledge gained for sure. While I didn't make comment about a fire resistance originally I wasn't expecting to find out how "crappy" the protection "materials" seem to be out there for these RCS's/safes. With the other side of the coin there's a price point to be aware of by the manufacturers......I get it. Not everyone is going to but a footlocker size container that costs $12k.

I would prefer an "assembled" package that was already done ...if if that was only a 80% solution at best. So the production products that are out there fit the bill for the time being.

While I was active duty then once retired I tried to get my SPeD certs thru CDSE so I understand some of what you are talking about in a working sense, academic sense, and practical sense. You posted plenty of good info about how to build something into a residence. Some of what you said wasn't anything that I haven't read about before or had to have knowledge of in my job. Trust me...upon my next new construction there's going to be some "hardening" of certain aspects of the home.

Yep I'll search my area to see what drops out. I did find what trailer to rent that has the correct ability/capability to do the job not to mention the correct freight dolly. Just need to find the right product that isn't 4 stories up some Victorian. LOL

Old pawn shops and jewelry stores typically have good safes as well. So if you can find one where someone is moving locations then they might let you take it off their hands at a discount rather than move it themselves

LOL...that seems to be lacking in my general area that's reasonable for driving.

I'll just get my GOV Auctions/Liquidations account going again. LOL I know they tend to have various items that would help in some aspects. If I can find a decent file cabinet from the CIA maybe that would be a good buy. LOL I just hope there's not a disc filled with 30,000 emails in the back that got misplaced.

One of the things about 'security' that most people have/get here and elsewhere is,,,, they don't talk about it in "specific" terms. Reasons for that. General guidelines, suggestions of possibilities, and "pointing towards meandering directions" is about as good as one could hope for.

At least, when "security" is actually the topic, and the concept of "security" is intended to be held, built, promoted, and sustained.

Quite along the lines of "I saw it in a movies once...."
