Weatherby 307

no short action magnum
no included rail
no mention of prefit tolerance
no mention of DBM capability

looks...generic
Almost 100% certain it’s a stiller OEM’d TAC 30/predator with some Weatherby branding herbs and spices. Same tenon threads, same hole spacing, same stiller flat on the left side of the receiver, pinned recoil lug, etc.
Not sure wtf the lack of SA mag bf is about.

Can still run AICS/center feed mags with a bdl cut action so that’s not really an issue.

Probably cost-cut with the pic rail and passed it as “catering” to hunting crowd that wants to run direct mount rings, of which there are a bunch for stiller pattern actions.

I am interested in the new Weatherby "307". Already looking around for a factory 7PRC hunting rifle. Will be interesting to see. Competition is good for more "less expensive" actions.

No offense, but like I said, for an extra $150 a CDG or Origin are hard to beat. I know $150 can seem like a lot, but for a custom build where its already going to be over $2k for an entire rifle, I'd spend the money for one of those at least. Way more feature rich.

Got multiple custom actions and custom rifles - do not need a custom action to shoot a critter at 300 yards. Tikka actions are great too if you get a donor rifle. Competition is good. Options are good.

That's true, but why would you not? A stock will be at least $500, plus a rail, optic, trigger, bottom metal or baseplate, barrel, etc. You're going to be in two grand. Why not at least have the options of the others?

I guess if you really don't care, then nobody's going to twist your arm  . But to me it seems like for reputation and customer service alone I'd spend the extra money.

You are "Savageman2506" advising me to spend more $ on custom action/rifle? I could just get a Savage action and spin on a barrel too.

I think both rifles are very well executed for their market. It's not a PRS/comp rifle, but both models will make excellent hunting rifles that will more than likely provide a lot of enjoyment at the range for the casual shooter.

The default response around here is "just get a Tikka" get's old. I've owned 3 and still have a T1X. They ARE great rifles, but they are not the only viable selection in their price point.

For most of us with any kind of custom or semi-custom rifle, buying a rifle or action that has a Rem 700 footprint is just prudent.

I wish Weatherby and Remington (with their new alpha one) great success.

There are just some people if you gave them $100 for free they would complain that it isn't $101.

I’d build a factory Howa 1500 and risk it, before wasting my money on another POS Weatherby product…And I think Howa is hot garbage. Fool me once, shame on you…Fool me twice, shame on me. Never again Weatherby…Never again.

I’d buy an Aero Solus for that same price, and it has an integrated 20MOA rail.

Or the Curtis Scout is on sale for like $799 right now, I think? Much better deal.

The most popular short mag right now is the 6.5 PRC, the biggest competitor to their 6.5 RPM. They aren’t going to chamber the competitors cartridge over their own so why bother stocking the action?

I agree here. I think, if someone wants a completed rifle for hunting with some limited long-range capability, then it's spot on. the bare action has me less impressed, but I guess if someone want's to go that route there's nothing wrong with it.
