Wanted to share an initial review of the Weaver Tactical 6-30 optic that just showed up on my doorstep. I believe when these were first cut loose a couple years ago, the retail on them was roughly 1600.00. This is what I still see on amazon and also Midway.
Natchez shooters supply has had them on sale for awhile at 750. Recently they offered a ten percent discount and I was able to snag this scope for 675.00. I figure this would be a rational "wing it" type of decision and order it without even handling the optic.
I haven't had the opportunity to check the optical clarity yet, but I will when I hit the range this weekend and I will follow up. I'm assuming Japanese glass, it will stack up with all the other optics in the 1200-1800 range...as we all know this can get subjective.
Overall build seems to be very high quality. I have an extensive list of top tier optics I have had the pleasure of working with:
Nightforce NXS, ATACR F1
Kahles 624i
USO
Minox
Bushnell Elite
Vortex gen 1 and 2
Schmidt & Bender
What I will say off of build impressions, the Weaver 6-30 gives up absolutely nothing to any of the above optics in multiple areas. Now, before I get punched in the face for saying all of this, I have not had an opportunity to run it through its paces. The turrets feel identical to the Nightforce NXS series optics. Tactile, not mushy, but more quiet than a clicky noise/feel like a Schmidt or Kahles provides. The parallax and zoom adjustments are very well assembled and this I could tell by the perfect amount of tension when adjusting these dials, not sloppy but not hard to turn. The reticle, not my favorite, but not horrible and will serve it's purpose. It is usable throughout all of its mag ranges 6-30, although it gets a little large on the max end -- which I hardly ever use. The illumination comes in both green and red -- I really don't ever use this feature either, but there is absolutely zero bleeding of the reticle when the illumination is on max power.
I am super impressed. This optic did exceed my expectations especially at the 675.00 price I snagged it for. I look forward to following up after I get it out this weekend.
