Weigh in on my next coyote rifle build

For 300 and in a 20 cal would be my choice for sure. Im running a 20 tac with 39gr blitzkings at 4000fps and 35gr bergers at 4050fps. Super fast, super flat and hammers yotes. Inside that 450 yard range it’s lights out. A 204 would be the same. Here’s some 20 tac groups

I also love my 22bra. I’m running 85.5’s at 3100-3130fps but have pushed the 75gr eld’m’s to 3400 and could imagine the 60gr bullets would be 3500+

I guess I didn't realize the velocity of the 20 Tactical, never really looked at it before. That is fantastic and those are some real nice groups...minute of coyote for sure! I've never been a real true velocity whore but I am thinking of turning a trick.

Have you done any fireforming from 223? Is it a process or just a sizing die sort of thing?

I have a 243 Ackley that I have yet to fire. I mounted a spare NXS on it over the weekend but didn't take the time to even bore sight it. I'm hoping to get some speed with it but I actually put it together thinking heavy for caliber 6mm so it has an 8 twist. I'm probably limited to about 3200 fps with jacketed lead bullets.

Maybe I will put together one of these 20 Tacticals for some lightning type velocity!!

I believe I’m much over pressure compared to what most shoot at, but I have 2 barrels that my load is safe in and doesn’t show any signs of pressure on primer and brass so that’s where I shoot it. I would expect 3800-3850 for most.

As far as sizing goes I just use a 20 tac full length bushing sizing die and size down in 2 motions. I go down about 2/3 of the way back off and then finished it off on a second go. I don’t know why but it works smoother this way

Once these barrels are done I will most likely try to 20-223ai for similar performance and easier brass yet again we will see.

I love the 20 tacs though, have had one for a few years now and they are just wicked. Inside that 300-450 yards it’s just so lightening quick and very little drop. Makes running shots a breeze:

20 practical is just necked down 223. I use a Redding 223 fl bushing die.

27g of wc844 gets me 3875 with a 39g seirra in my 24" ar15. I get about the same velocity shooting 34g noslers through my 18" ar15. I want to say 40 vmaxes were in the low 3700 in my 18".

I built my 18" about the time I pretty much stopped calling. Then I got a real good deal on a WOA 24" from the px. I would recommend. The woa would be more than I want to carry though. Lol

Bergara makes the b14 hmr in 22-250 with 1-9 twist. Could shoot 69 tmk and maybe even 77 tmk if you wanted to go longer range. 53gr vmax would be a nice bullet to use in it for 250 or less. Put crosshairs on it and shoot at those ranges.

You've already got a good light weight combo, I have same set up in a Tikka 22-250. It is as or more accurate than any of my heavy barrel varmint or tac rifles.

Bought a Savage Lightweight Hunter a few years ago in 243 and it is a dream to carry. The Tikka still has the accuracy edge so I would sway towards their Superlite if I was to buy another lightweight.

I hate to carry a bunch of gear when hunting or having a 15lb rifle trying to fall off my shoulder so after some foot problems and now hand operations I go the lightest one I feel lucky with when I go out.

Cheaper to "Suck it up Buttercup" as my daughter would say and start lifting something other than doughnuts. But, its still fun dreaming about the ultimate, supper accurate, fully dressed out 5lb. calling rifle.
